Looking for advice, I have a Thailand I D card and yellow book, can I open a bank account without a non o visa
Summary so far
The general consensus in the comments is that having a Thailand ID card and yellow book does not grant eligibility to open a bank account without a Non-O visa. Many users emphasize that bank account policies are heavily dependent on the type of visa held, and that tourists, regardless of having certain documents, typically do not qualify for banking services. While a few suggest that it may be worth trying to approach different banks, the risk of having an account frozen if visa status is checked is a concern. Ultimately, the responses point towards needing a proper visa for a successful bank account application.

If you want to open a bank account,…GO ASK YOUR QUESTION AT THE BANK,..how should we know the answer,…it’s all up to the person you have in front you when you visit the bank.
You done well to get them on a TV pink ID card is about as good as a blank piece of paper you need your passport with the relevant visa stating your entitlement
I would just go and try an assortment of banks, there's enough of them. I think you ll be fine.
However my agent is telling new customers that Immigration Dept are only accepting Kasikorn Bank accounts, on new Non O applications here in Udonthani.
Munzie Munro Never believe an agent. Everything they advise is based around how much money they can scam out of you. Immigration will accept any Thai bank account
** I did say NEW APPLICATIONS** Thanks mate, yeah agreed, been here 20 years continuously. I get that but it's also the case in Jomtien and elsewhere too. Bangkok Bank won't comply or cooperate with the means to circumvent the banking requirements. ie the 800k the Agent pays into your account, BB insist it must stay in there 3 months.
I am fine with my existing bank provider, as I am "grandfathered" in.
One final thing regards using an Agent, if you can afford it, it makes life far far easier. And I can, so I do. Never had one issue in 20 years here.
agents only have issues with Bangkok Bank in Jomtien since that's where they got caught. Anywhere else is no problem. They'll still issue bank letters to agents same as always. The new and stupid policy only hurts people trying to do it themselves.
