TLDR : Answer Summary
To open a Thai bank account on a Non-O visa in Bangkok, you typically do not need an agent. Important steps include obtaining a certificate of residence from immigration, acquiring a Thai SIM card registered under your name, and having your passport with the Non-O visa stamp. Many expats have had success opening accounts directly at banks like Kasikorn, often completing the process within an hour. If one bank is unhelpful, trying another may yield better results. The general consensus among community members is that handling the process yourself is straightforward.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Thai visa center and Siam Center just quoted me over 60,000 bahts. Do you know anyone reputable that might charge in the range you quoted

This quote would be for not only a bank account, it includes the following while you are currently on a TR/Exempt Entry:

- Bank Account Opening

- Obtaining 3 Month Retirement based NON-O

- Obtaining 1 Year Extension

bank account opening only, if you have entered on a Non-Imm-O visa like the threadstarter Martin Mcewan Brown , is 5000 THB for the agent service

Thai Visa Center, for those with Non O 90 days was 34,000 THB in July 2025.

Bank account only, in Pattaya, was 5,000 THB (other agents, not Thai Visa Center).

Generally if you go to immigration and get a residence certificate, then purchase a Thai SIM registered against your passport then visit a bank and request they open an account for you. If one branch says no, just move on to the next one

Your landlord would need to provide it to you. If they file your TM30 online, then they can get it from the online system. But only within 7 days of filing it. So if they did it before that, they would have to file a new one to download it.

No need for an agent, just go into the branch and ask for the list of documents required to open an account. Follow the list, open the account….

All you should have to do is get a certificate of residence from immigration for banking, a thai cell phone plan with your own number, not a shared plan, and a passport with non-o stamped in it. Go to K-bank and within an hour you will have an account. I did it in November. I am in Khon Kaen though, but BKK should be easier.

I don't know if there are any agents that offer this service as a standalone. The agents in Bangkok will only help you open a bank account if it's part of you buying a full visa/extension service, upwards of 30-40,000 baht.

The only agents that still might do this are in Pattaya.
