Can I obtain a residency certificate from a hotel stay for opening a bank account in Thailand?
Hi guys
Quick question can I obtain a residency certificate from staying in a hotel for a week.
We want to rent a villa for about 4 months but really don't want to pay a deposit blind like most want. But need to open a bank account ASAP and put money in to season for extension.
So plan would be to go hotel get residency certificate and open bank account and be able to look properly for a place to stay.

Completely depends on the province. Most don't require anything but a TM30. Some want to see a rental agreement, and one province even requires you to have already filed a 90-day report (completely unreasonable requirement that Bangkok stopped enforcing over a year ago).

As long as the hotel registers a TM30 in your name, you should be able to get a CoR

Stuart Levy ???? 😐 you can't get abank account opened on a touristic entry. I doubt you entered on a 90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa, because you said "I shall hopefully get a marriage visa". The 1-year extension of the stay permit is not a visa. No Non-Imm Visa Type, no bank account

OPGreg Alexander well don't read to much into things you don't know. Im quite capable of doing what's needed. Ive asked one question and wanted to know if I can get a residency certificate from staying in a hotel that's all I want to know. Ive got everything else. This what I said before,you are not helping anyone with your answers. Im not even in Thailand yet.

Yes you should be able to as long as the place your staying files a TM30 for you and gives you the receipt to take to immigration. You should also get a Thai SIM registered against your passport

Answer is yes and go to K bank. My experience was I didn’t even need a residency certificate just the TM30 from the hotel as I had a Thai license with address on and had stayed here before. 12 years experience and you may be fine without that extra trip to Immigration.

OPCathy Odgers Thanks, but I left in 2015 and now returning. Still have my old driving licence but out of date. Did have a few bank accounts but they have been closed down.

Stuart Levy you need the res. certificate if you dont have a license and thais love rules, so I guess it needs to be valid. You need the id proof beside passport.

Stuart Levy you asked if you can get a CoR while staying at a hotel. The answer is yes as long as the hotel provides you with a TM30. Then you say you know that already, so why ask?

maybe if you read it correctly, I was answering someone that was telling me about a Non O visa about opening a bank account. Nothing about my question. This how people make mistakes i know about visas extension and opening bank accounts. I lived in Thailand for 12 years before. So really I just wanted a answer on my question.
