I live with my partner in the UK and want to move to Thailand. Is there a way of getting a marriage visa without going to Bangkok. Can I do everything in Khon Kaen

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question relates to obtaining a marriage visa to Thailand while residing in the UK, specifically whether this can be done without visiting Bangkok and instead completed in Khon Kaen. Comments suggest that obtaining a NON-O visa based on marriage is possible either from the UK or upon arriving in Thailand, provided certain requirements are met, such as having a Thai bank account. Some commenters also highlight the necessity of legalizing and translating marriage documents. Overall, there are options besides traveling to Bangkok for visa application.

To marry a Thai in Thailand you will need to get an Affirmation of Freedom to marry from the embassy, and you need to get it translated and legalised. It was simple enough but I think your starting point is the embassy in Bangkok. I don’t think you can get it in London sadly.

apply for a DTV visa - 5 years, can stay 6 months each time (so pop out and back in for 1 day). Easy peasy.

You say partner, but you don’t say that if you are legally married to that person?
Going to Bangkok is irrelevant to getting a marriage visa. You get a marriage visa either through an Embassy where you reside or at the local immigration office within Thailand at which you are registered.

Everyone is assuming that you are married to a Thai. If so you can get your Non-O marriage visa from the UK by applying online or, after arriving, from Khom Kaen Immigration if you have a Thai bank account in your name and a balance of at least 800k.
you need to apply online for the Non-Immigrant O visa from your home country. The Thai Embassy in your home country will then , after approval, send you the E-visa after which you can travel to Thailand and start the process to get your marriage visa.
You absolutely cannot get the Non-Immigrant O visa from Khon Kaen immigration after arrival !!!
. Thanks for your post. Still new to Thailand🇹🇭 after leaving the useless states of americrap. Thinking on doing the same (marriage visa) next spring. I'm on my 3rd trip for a total of about 4 months.
yes sorry, 400k for marriage (800k is for retirement)

Do you live with your partner or your spouse? Can’t get a non-o visa based on marriage if the former (no offense intended, rather not make assumptions).
Provided you’re already married, you get a non-o visa based on marriage from the UK, and check the e-visa website for which additional documents you’ll need.
Marriage certificate apostille was something we had to do from the US, your mileage may vary.
I think you can do everything in Khon Kaen when you get here, but check the UK requirements to be sure.

i actually needed it to get my yellow house book and pink id
nope !! I just went through the process from Non-Immigration O to marriage visa and you definitely don’t need to do get your passport translated 🤣. Maybe if your passport is in Russian or Chinese, but not when it’s in English
to Thai… some ampors request a translation of passport of the foreign one … upon registering marriage… was same for me .. german passport translated and legalised by thai ministry of foreign affairs….
So in which language does the UK provide passports? 🤣

Get the non-O visa before you travel to Thailand. It will make opening a Thai bank account possible if you don't already have one, and will also save you 2 trips to immigration if you do already have a Thai bank account.
And if you didn't get married in Thailand and your marriage isn't already registered in Thailand, you need to do some things with your marriage certificate in the UK before you leave as well.
