TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a Thai marriage visa (NON-O) even if your marriage took place in the UK. However, you need to ensure that your UK marriage certificate is properly translated into Thai and stamped by the embassy, as well as registered with Thai authorities at your local Amphur. It's advisable to gather all necessary documents, including multiple stamped copies of the translated marriage certificate, to facilitate your visa application.

Jumped through all these hoops myself.. non Thai marriage certificate has to be translated into Thai and stamped by MFA in Thailand.. but original also has to be stamped by embassy of country of marriage.. we used an agent in CM to handle it all.. so as to avoid having to fly down to Bankgkok ourselves.. they included a translated copy of my passport in case of need as well.. and was well worth the cost given the saving on flights etc.. one of the few occasions that agents really make sense imo.. process took around 2-3 weeks.. once documents are to hand marriage needs to be registered at your local Amphur and certificate of registration obtained.. I'd suggest you get 3-4 original stamped copies.. you need this to apply for a 'non-o' visa based on marriage.. you also need it to apply for a yellow book and a pink ID card later.. be aware some Amphurs try to retain your original stamped certificate of translation.. i told mine they could have it if they reimbursed me for the cost of it.. and they eventually backed down and took a copy they certified for themselves.. but it took some serious haggling to achieve that! Clearly different provinces and different amphurs have their own 'rules' but that's the gist of it.. good luck!

How does it work if someone is here on a non O dependant visa , but they work for a foreign company which is abroad? They can still receive a salary but just pay the taxes for money coming into Thailand?

On non-O visa they cannot get a work permit.

ok thanks. So generally all the people on Non O visa that send money to their Thai bank accounts just need to pay tax on it - I'm sure most of them are still getting some kind of foreign income

@Apple ****
most are over 50. At the moment it doesn't matter what foreign income you have, it's what you bring into Thailand that counts (if you become tax resident). And if your country has a Dual Taxation Agreement with Thailand, the provisions of it will likely reduce or even eliminate the Thai tax liability. DTA's differ, so you need to refer to the one your country has. However if you're thinking of working remotely for your current employer you will need a different visa, like the DTA

UK marriage needs a stamp and translation. We did it using an agent in London. Mrs flew to Thailand to get new ID card and Koror 3. We are still in the UK but good to go when we do what you are doing in a year or so time.

You can translate your documents and stamp them in ministry of foreign affairs in laksi if you brought your marriage certificate, then bring them to amphur to get Thai marriage certificate from there you can convert your visa to non-o since married to Thai

Would recommend contact UK embassy in Bangkok to get confirmation
