TLDR : Answer Summary
Once you receive your Under Consideration Stamp for your marriage visa in Thailand, it is generally advisable not to move significant funds from your account. Officially, authorities can ask for proof of required funds when you return for your full visa stamp. Even though it may not be common, it is safest to keep the funds in place until the full stamp is obtained. Additionally, consider that you will need proof of funds again when applying for an extension after the initial year.

I received my one year marriage visa stamp 2 days ago... the date of the stamp is July 28th 2026... the "under consideration " period is included in the "year"...also had a paper stapled on the next page of passport..giving the date of first 90 day report..

OH i would jsut move it from Bangkok bank to Krungthai haha

Officially, they can ask you to prove you still have the required funds when you go back to get the full stamp in your passport. It's not likely, but it's possible. The general guidance is to not touch the money until you finish your under consideration period and get the full stamp in your passport.

And if you're talking about the visa and not the extension, you're going to need the money in your account very soon again when you apply for the extension, so it's best not to touch it until after that's all done as well.

yeah, the lady boss once called me during "under the consideration period" saying Bangkok immigration has requested an updated bank book, so it can happen.

interesting ive always been told its a "just in case" kinda deal but never heard of someone having it be requested. Was there some issue with your bank or something?

well unfortunately i have a lumpsum payment from my pension a few weeks before the due date and they BBK wanted to check it was still there, mind you if they had checked the previous year (which they had) they could have seen it stayed there and used as intended, but they can check.

Ok fair enough. But i thought once i go get my actual stamp, after the in consideration part, that gives me the year? So dont i have i guess itd be 6 months before i need the money in my account again?

@Cris *****
you said you applied for the visa. A non-O visa is a 90 day visa. You only ever have this once. Every application after that will be for a 1-year extension. You need to know which one you applied for.

Oh no i already did the 90 day. This is for the Marriage part. And trust me it was comparable to traveling through morodor trying to destroy the one ring haha. But ya i already did the 90 day, so this would be the extension then? so should be ok then?

@Cris *****
wait until you get the approved stamp…

Better safe than sorry!

@Cris *****
the non-O IS the marriage visa. So you saying "this is for the marriage part" makes no sense.

You applied for an extension of stay of your marriage visa, and your extension is based on being married to a Thai.

So you should technically keep the money in your account until you go back on the date of your under consideration stamp to get the full extension. Likely nothing will happen if you touch the money sooner, but leaving it there is the 100% safe way.

Righto, sorry still learning all the terminology. The lady at immigration said the 90 day non O was a "visiting family" visa, and then i apply for the "marriage part" but again not the best english but ya. Ok cool gracias for the reply as always

Immigration is not very famous for correct English. You got stamped in for a 90-days stay permit when you entered Thailand on a 90-days Non-Imm-O THAI FAMILY visa, the visa itself expired when you entered. What you got issued on Immigration is a "1-year Extension of temporary stay permit based on being married to a Thai wife". You are not on a visa any more, you are inside Thailand on an "extended" stay permit. And this 1-year stay permit needs to be applied for, again, every year. Best is to just don't touch the 400,000 THB deposit, just let it sit in the account, you need it again sitting there for a minimum of 2 months before you apply for the next 1-year extension. And be careful, some Immigrations out there make their own rules and ask for a 3-months seasoning of the 400K

@Nongnuch *******
thats exactly what I will be doing…. Put 400k in the bank and never touch it.

@John ********
You can also park those 400k in a Fixed Deposit Account if you don't need the money. Better interest rate. Then have another account for daily/living expenses.

well thats the problem. With the exchange rate for USD being in the garbage I need the money to pay my builder. Because transferring money right now I lose a ton.

@Cris *****
When is the payment due date?

we have a good relationship with our builder so its flexible. But he was hoping for at least half by the end of September. And my stamp to go back is in beginning of October.

@Cris *****
Then you still have a lot of time.

Oh ya, Korat is one of those, they require 3 months of statements. And im not taking the money out, just moving it from Bangkok bank to Krungthai basically

@Cris *****
If you switch accounts, it must happen the same day to avoid a zero baht balance.

ya thats another thing that confused me. My first marriage visa. They even said. Once you get the stamp bam its ok. But now we've moved up to Isaan. And who knows. Haha

@Cris *****
You need 3 months of statements because a 2 month statement today (28th) would be all of July and August to date so not two complete months. The danger of changing banks is it might show as a withdrawal one day and a deposit the following day so the closing balance drops to zero for one day. Take care.
