Hello, I have a Non O visa. If I enter Thailand, get the bank account set up and transfer the funds into it to season, would I be able to leave the country and re-enter in time to apply for the extension?

Would I just need a re-entry permit?

Thank you πŸ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can leave Thailand and return with a Non O visa to apply for an extension, provided you purchase a re-entry permit before departing. It's important to ensure you're back before your entry stamp expires to avoid complications in your extension application process.

Yes, you can leave as long as you purchase a re-entry permit. You can get that at the airport on your way out. Ask the immigration officers you want to purchase one and they will direct you to the correct place.

Also make sure you are back before your entry stamp expires so you can apply for your extension or you'll have to start over from scratch.

This post relates to the extension of your Non O.

The timeline also depends on which Office you will be going to. SAMUI has new rules now.

1. 6 weeks after (your 90 day) entry, you visit the office with your form filled out and all supporting documents EXCEPT the bank ones and your Medical Certificate. At that time, they book you in for an appointment to return closer to the date with the remaining documents.

2. You turn up at the appointment time with your documents. They will eventually get partially processed, you pay the fee, get a ticket number and you are asked to come back in a week’s time to collect your passport.

3. You go back in a week with your ticket and you get your passport back with your extension stamped.

Please note that this applies to SAMUI. I would check with your local Immigration Office as soon as you arrive.

I hope this helps. πŸ˜ƒ

That's quite a process. Thanks for sharing. I'll be applying in Chiang Mai. Hopefully won't need to do a 6 week visit. Will check before/when I arrive, thanks for heads up.

Yeah, it’s ridiculous in my view but what can you do…?

I had a copy of the requirements from last year but I’m happy I went up there as soon as I arrived to get the current ones.

Good luck πŸ˜ƒ

you can apply up until the last day of your entry stamp. But it's not advised to wait that long in the event you are missing some documents
