ORIGINAL POSTER
Quick question: If I get the Non O, deposit the 800K, and after three months get the extension to 1 year, do I have to stay in Thailand for the whole 9 months until further extension, or can I leave, and come back before the first year is over? Thanks all for your reply, much appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can leave Thailand after obtaining the Non-O visa extension, but you must purchase a re-entry permit to avoid cancellation of your extension. A single re-entry permit costs 1000 baht, while a multiple re-entry permit costs 3800 baht. Ensure you return in time to apply for the next extension, or you may lose your current extension.

You're free to go wherever you want. But if you don't want your 1-year extension to be cancelled, you'll need to purchase a re-entry permit before you leave. Either a single re-entry for 1000 baht or a multiple re-entry for 3800 baht. Just depends on how many times you plan to leave during that year.

You can purchase this from your immigration office, or at the airport on your way out.

But you still need to ensure you're back in time to apply for your next extension or you'll lose it and have to start over.
