ORIGINAL POSTER
Quick question: If I get the Non O, deposit the 800K, and after three months get the extension to 1 year, do I have to stay in Thailand for the whole 9 months until further extension, or can I leave, and come back before the first year is over? Thanks all for your reply, much appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Once you obtain the Non-O visa and deposit the required 800K for your extension, you are allowed to travel out of Thailand. However, to maintain your year-long extension, you must acquire a re-entry permit (either single or multiple) before leaving. If you do not return in time to apply for your next extension, you risk losing your current visa status.

The extension is for 12 months, not 9 months

merci c’est une précision importante, je pensais que la 1er fois ( comme l’auteur du post) que l’extension était de 9 mois ( 3 mois de non O + 9 mois d’extension égale 12 mois )

Merci de cette précision

You're free to go wherever you want. But if you don't want your 1-year extension to be cancelled, you'll need to purchase a re-entry permit before you leave. Either a single re-entry for 1000 baht or a multiple re-entry for 3800 baht. Just depends on how many times you plan to leave during that year.

You can purchase this from your immigration office, or at the airport on your way out.

But you still need to ensure you're back in time to apply for your next extension or you'll lose it and have to start over.

si tout les papiers sont en règle, ça prend combien de temps pour obtenir la première extension du non O en Thaïlande

Merci

So once you have your

Non-O - 12 month approved in Thailand

And say you wanted to leave Thailand for another country and return to Thailand in say 3 weeks - Do you need to purchase a re-entry before you leave ?

Does that also apply for land based exit / re-entry ?

Thank you

There is no such thing as a 12 month non-O. There is a 90 day non-O visa. And then a 12 month extension. An extension is not a non-O, it's an extension. Any re-entry permit purchased is only valid for the stamp it is purchased for. So if you purchase the re-entry permit while you are on the 12 month extension, it will be valid if you leave during that 12 months. You would need to purchase it before you leave. It's for ANY exit and re-entry. But land borders do not sell re-entry permits. So if you want to use a land border you'd best go to your immigration office first.
