A question about the O non immigrant visa. As a prerequisite to obtaining a retirement visa I will be going to Laos to obtain a 90 day type O non immigrant visa.

If I should somehow by choice or fate not receive the retirement visa can I continue to visit a foreign country every 3 months for a new O visa?

Visa free 30 day stamps are limited and not a long term option.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the possibility of obtaining a 90-day Non-Immigrant O visa from Laos as a prerequisite for a retirement visa, and whether they could repeatedly apply for this visa every three months if the retirement visa is not granted. The responses clarified that there is no official limit to the number of visas in a passport, allowing for repeated applications, and also provided additional information about recent requirements and the proper visa process.

Another bit of information is, you're not going to get a 'retirement visa' because there is no such thing.

You will first apply for a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on being over 50. You can do this inside thailand at the immigration office or by going to a thai consulate in a nearby country.

Then you will apply for a yearly extension of stay at the immigration office by meeting the financial requirements and providing the required documentation.

Once you get your yearly extension of stay you can apply for a re-entry permit. That will let you leave, come back and will keep your extension 'alive' for the year.

, you need to remember that outside of thailand visas are sold at consulates and embassies run under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office and inside thailand visas and extensions are sold by the thai immigrations offices which are run by the Royal Thai Police. I doubt those two offices have EVER communicated.

If all you're doing is buying a 90 day Non-O visa from a thai consulate in Australia you can have the money in your account there.

Don't trust the consulate AT ALL as far as how you get an extension of stay on that visa once you get here. There is a good chance that they don't know anything about it.

Now IF you're comin' to thailand on a 90 day Non-O visa and then going to apply for a yearly extension it doesn't matter where the money in your thai bank account comes from because for extensions there is no requirement that the money come from abroad. The only requirement is that it is a thai bank account in your name for 60 days prior to you applying for the yearly extension.

But I am applying for an O visa in Australia before moving to Thailand to live based on age, finance and married to Thai lady for over a decade. Or am I just not understanding at all what I am doing. Sorry to seem so dim. But everytime I talk to the consulate I get a different person who seems very uncertain about anything and gives me a different answer and so the confusion grows. Sorry.

IF you open an account and then put in 800K baht that you happen to have with you without transferring it into the country from overseas you cannot use that for getting the first 90 day Non-O visa inside the country because getting that visa inside the country has the requirement that the funds originate from overseas.

@Tod ********
thankyou. I was struggling with the idea that I could not just open an account and deposit 800k that I had with me. To my mind if you put it in your account that is all that matters.

@Paul *******
nope I didnt' say that at all. You can certainly open a thai bank account and transfer money into it.

I was saying that the proof of overseas transfer is ONLY on the initial 90 day Non-O application NOT on the yearly extension.

Also (at least in Bangkok) there is no seasoning of the money from when you transfer it in to when you can apply for the 90 day Non-O visa. I've had people transfer it in and go to the immigration office the next day to apply for their 90 day Non-O visa. It's the extensions of stay that require seasoning, 60 days for the first yearly extension and 3 months for ever year after that

@Paul *******
so long as you have proof the transfer came from overseas, it should be fine, I did mine Nonthaburi,

@David *********
So by the sound of that a ozForex transfer should cover that. But who can tell, Thai rules sheesh 🤔
David **********
Paul Potter From experience they require the money 800,000 bhat and proof of transfer from an overseas bank,

I have just obtained my extension at Nonthaburi, for the 90 days the money had to be In a Thai bank 30 days, when going for the extension it must be in the bank 60 days prior to application, this for the non 0 based on over 50

@Tod ********
so to 100% clarify in my foggy brain you're saying I can't open an account and deposit the money directly myself?? Or Forex it into the account, I don't want to cop the crap exchange rate and bank transfer fees.

@Gunm****
, no, an O-A visa can only be gotten from a thai consulate in your country before you come here.

For yearly extensions of stays there is no requirement that it come from overseas.

For getting the 90 day Non-O visa inside the country using banked money there IS a requirement that it be transferred in from abroad.

is the yearly extension the type Non-O-A ? Also, does the 800K in the Thai bank have to be Foreign Bank transfer to a Thai bank or can it just be 800K in a thai bank static for
***
months.
Tod *********
Just so you know in Vientiane they now require a police background check and a medical certificate to issue a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on being over 50.
Robert *******
There is no official limit on how many visa's can be in your passport, so yes you can go every 3 months. If you meet the requirements I don't see the by choice or fate for not getting an Extension of Stay at your local Immigration Office.

@Da***
, that's what we try to do.
