TLDR : Answer Summary
The question asks if it's possible to buy a one-way ticket to Thailand with a non O-A multi visa. Multiple responses indicate that with this type of visa, a one-way ticket is typically acceptable. However, some commenters caution that airline policies may vary, and it's advisable to confirm with the airline before purchasing the ticket. An onward travel ticket can be purchased as a precaution, but it's generally not necessary for holders of long-term visas such as the non O-A.

Non Immigrant O-A Multi Entry Visa - one year - nearly auto extended for another 12 months with an Exit and Reentry to Thailand. Applicant must be age 50 or older. The application must be done at a Thai Embassy / Consulate in one's home country. There is a medical and police background check (nothing major). Finances are: Have to have 800,000 Thai Baht equivalent in a bank account outside Thailand - usually in one's home country. Other details can be found at the Thai Embassy website in one's home country.

In the U.S. the hang-up is airline. You can buy one ticket to Thailand (answer to your question). Can you board a plane with a one-way to ticket to Thailand? Is the question I think you mean to ask. The risk is if the airline will allow you to board, and that is a matter of policy and Airline employee implementation. Best bet - buy bus ticket to Phnom Pehn - $20 and you may even end up using it, or plan a trip with 60 days of being here.

Not that guy, but I fly out of LAX on Cathay Pacific on one way tickets, with a visa, and once they see the visa there are no issues.

You never get asked on arrival to Thailand. The most likely is to be asked by the airline if you do not have a visa or if you have a 1 time visa, ie 60 day. If you have a visa that is multiple entry it is unlikely that you will be asked as you are able to leave at any time and return at any time......so why would you book a specific ticket.

With a long stay visa, a one way ticket will not be a problem at all.

Jim It's up to the airlines who boards and who doesnt. Also it's the airport authority who sets the rule. IATA is just an independent board of trade, they have no authority over who flys or who doesnt

I beg to differ,as they make the airline rules and it's easy to show that at check-in and if still a problem one can speak and show that to a supervisor, or in the end sign a waiver.

Steve, I was probably talking more so about tourist visa as far as itineraries go,which is what I've always been asked to send in,but overall, what I said applies, including IATA which makes the rules for the airlines,so an O A as far as check in applies falls into the exact same category as a T.V. and they cannot refuse you boarding.

. You're confusing local consulates and short haul flights. There's no proof of requirements of flights/travel to obtain an non imm OA visa

. Most consulates advise you to obtain the visa before you book a flight. The Embassy/Consulate and airlines/airports are in no way connected. IATA has nothing to do with it.

If you check Thailand on IATA you'll find that it states,or did,No onward ticket required if one has a visa from a Thai embassy or consulate, and really, why would they sell you a visa when they're aware that you have a one way ticket. I've been questioned once, and just said exactly that at check-in. No further problems.

Can't speak to LHR. But I fly a star alliance airline whenever I go overseas and a one-way ticket has never been a problem for me.

Anyway, the poster is doing the best thing...call the airline and ask. 😁

LHR are super hot, if you dont have official residency or onward travel, it's a given that you wont be allowed to board. Non imm OA or not

The OA visa does not require the poster to make border bounces every 90 days. Just the 90 day report. Thus an out bound ticket is not required. You friend was on an O visa that requires a border bounce every 90 days.

Depends on the airline and the airport. I know 2 people who have been refused boarding at LHR with 1 way tickets even though they had non imm o multi entry visas to Thailand. They were advised to show onward travel within 90 days.

Depends on the airline. It's pretty much impossible from LHR. Just buy a cheap onward travel ticket to be on the safe side

Security has nothing got to do with it.. almost all countries with visa free entry require proof of onward travel before boarding to prevent people being denied entry at the destination and the destination country having to foot the bill to send the traveler home
