Hey everybody,

so tommorow I am going to extend my STV visa for the second and last time, with that extension I can stay until November here. After that can I do a normal 30 day extension? If not what other possibilities are there to extend my visa, so that I could stay until December?

Thanks in advance

Kind regards,

Gamper Josef

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster, Joseph Gamper, is seeking advice on extending his STV (Special Tourist Visa) to stay in Thailand until December. Despite extending his visa once, it is noted that options are limited, with some community members indicating that transitioning from an STV to another visa type is typically not allowed within Thailand. While suggestions of applying for a 60-day COVID extension exist, others mention that the 30-day extension may not be available for STV holders. Participants in the conversation encourage Gamper to directly consult with immigration for the best chances of receiving an extension.

Is it that easy right now? And then make quarantine and all that bullshit again..

My advise: Try to get a 60-day COVID extension of stay afterwards, if this scheme is still around by then (which I believe it will). Technically, the STV can not be extended further or changed into another visa category in country. BUT, COVID extensions are a seperate thing that may be applied irrespective of what visa you hold or came in on. Just try you luck and ask your immigration office (or some of them around you). They have a tendency for each applying things differently.

Thanks for the help. I just need a 30 day extension. 60 days is too long and expensive too, already paid a lot for the whole STV visa. I will try to contact the immigration office and see if they can help.

@Josef *******
Price of the regular 30-day extension (which is not available to you as a STV holder) and the 60-day COVID extension is the same: 1,900 baht.

What would happen if I would overstay a few days? 😅

@Josef *******
the fine if you make it to the airport is 500 baht per day. However you will have broken the law and if you were stopped before then it could turn nasty. No reports recently but some horror stories over the years. Not worth the risk IMO.

Thanks again for the information. So no way around of going back home. Everyone was able to extend, why not with the STV, so stupid...

Unfortunately that was how it was sold. As a visa that couldn’t be changed. It was always a crappy option for most people, what with needing fully paid up accommodation and the like. I’d be happy for you if you find your immigration office will grant a Covid extension, but make plans in case they won’t.
Andy *******
I haven't heard of STV'ers getting the 30-day extension at all BUT regardless of what people are telling you, some ARE getting immigration to grant the 60-day Covid extension

@Andy *********
even the visa agents will not touch the STV. It's written into law re stv
Stuart *********
@Andy *********
I’ve not seen any posts regarding people getting the Covid extension off an STV. I’m not saying it hasn’t happened just that I’ve not seen confirmation. Like anything probably highly dependant on a specific immigration office.

Chonburi (and using an agent/lawyer - $$) has been verified

@Andy *********
interesting to see what they paid for the stamp and what immigration office that stamp was issued from.
Andy *******
@James *******
agree, with agent 6-10k baht, otherwise I'm hearing no problem on your own
James ********
@Andy *********
that;s dirt cheap...usually big $$$
Andy *******
@James *******
I'm hearing not a big deal
James ********
@Andy *********
we have not seen a STAMP in a passport which confirms that an extension or change was allowed.
Andy *******
@James *******
that's my new goal to get you that stamp
James ********
@Andy *********
please do... We are waiting to see one

@Andy *********
as I said in my original reply the OP maybe able to find an agent to grease wheels but from most posts I’ve seen here they won’t touch an STV.
Stuart *********
The are no more options other than leave Thailand. The STV was a crazy idea and couldn’t be changed to any other type of visa within Thailand. You might find an agent that can grease wheels but most of them won’t touch it with a barge pole.

Is there no covid extension or something?
Kenny ********
yes can send it later you just go to imigration and they give you the same papir you always get for exstation of visa i thailand the 1900 bhat 60 days
Kenny ********
yes i got 2 month covid visa and finish next month and just get my application for 2 more month 😃 so i got 4 month efter the 270 days stv

@Kenny *******
Would you mind showing your STV sticker and your 60 day extension of stay COVID-19 stamp? Also, can you share what documents you used to get that 60 day extension of stay, and which immigration office you used?
James ********
@Josef *******
. Nothing is available...must leave. Even visa agents cannot change
Stuart *********
@Josef *******
not from the STV unfortunately.
Frank-Steven ***********
@Stuart ********
Is that confirmed? Honest, open question. I know there is no changing the STV to whatsoever other visa in country. But I was under the impression that the COVID-60-day extension of stay is applied irrespectively of you visa status. So I think it would be worth a shot to get a COVID extension after the STV runs out.
Stuart *********
@Frank-Steven **********
by all means it’s worth a try, but I’ve not seen any reports that it’s happened-other than someone saying someone got one using a agent/lawyer. If anyone can confirm they’ve walked into a immigration office and applied and got one then I’ll be happy to confirm that it’s doable, but as stated it’s probably highly dependent on a specific immigration office.
