TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on an OA Multi-Entry visa and inquires about the possibility of switching to a Non-O visa while still in Thailand or whether to extend the OA visa instead. Comments clarify that changing from a Non-OA to Non-O visa cannot be done within Thailand; the person must exit the country and re-enter on the desired visa type. Extensions for the OA visa are possible, and post-extension, they can apply for a Multiple Re-Entry permit.

You cannot change your entry status from Non-OA to Non-O inside Thailand. If you really want to change, you need to leave the country and enter Thailand on Non-O or tourism status.

What options you have depends on what is the date of your visa expiration and admitted to stay until date on your current entry stamp...

or get married

If you change the reason of extension from being over 50 to being married to a Thai, and if you get back to the reason to being over 50, you’d still need to meet the requirements for non-OA based.

The question is what is the Admitted to Stay date stamped in your passport?

In some Immigration Offices it is from 45 days other 30 days until the Admitted to Stay date to apply for an Extension of Stay.

You can not switch from a Non Immigrant O visa to a Non Immigrant O visa inside the country.

After you have the 1 year Extension of Stay stamped in your passport you can apply for the Multiple Re-Entry permit to travel as much as you like during that year.
