As they are in Chiang Mai, they need to bounce out and back at the nearest border (which is up in Chiang Rai with Lao) to get OFF this current 90 day stamp, and get ON a new 30 day free visa exempt entry.

Then they need to get to the Chiang Mai immigration office quickly and get the hand out to apply for the in country 90 day non-O visa for 2000baht

They need to do this quickly because they need a minimum of 15 working days left on their 30 day stamp to apply for it

They don't need to have the funds seasoned at all in the bank for the initial 90 day Non-O application.

They apply for the in country Non-O for 2000baht, wait the 3 weeks it goes under review, go back get it inked in, wait until the funds are seasoned the 2 months and then apply for the year extension for 1900baht and after that their re-entry permit

The upside is they did not and will not need health insurance

That's all they got really.. There's no other viable option

OK, the O/P had a few facts wrong,

they are on a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on retirement from the Thai embassy in France

That visa can't be extended for anything other than the year extension based on being over 50

They only got the funds transferred into their account here 3 weeks ago

They only have 10 days left on their current stamp

Sadly for them there is no way they can get a year extension inside the country with the situation as it is ๐Ÿ™

This is the general information for a 1-year extension based on being 50/retirements. You need to go to the CM office to get their latest list as they have their specific version.

You are mixing a few things.

Non-OA is the visa that only you can apply for in your home country or where you have legal residency.

What you can do is, apply for a 1-year extension on your entry stamp (it's not a visa /entry stamp from a visa anymore) at the local immigration office by meeting all requirements. A re-entry permit as well if you want to travel abroad during your extension.

We recommend you to go to the Chiang Mai office to get the latest requirements list for a 1-year extension based on being over 50.

This might help to understand what we meant.
