TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking to apply for a retirement Non-Imm O visa for 90 days in Thailand and extend it later for a year. Community responses suggest that it can be done within Thailand, particularly at the Jomtien immigration office. Users have advised that the application requires at least 15 days left on the current stamp, proof of funds, and potentially health insurance if applying outside Thailand. There are discussions about applying for the visa in Thailand versus going to a nearby country like Penang or Laos for assistance.

Amazing. Now it is suddenly the Thai consulate does not provide the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age. As every Thai Consulate or Immigration Office if YOU as foreigner just walk in, or even after an appointment , totally unprepared and think that your passport is enough, you think totally wrong.

The reason why Heather did not get a visa:

Heather Docherty

18 October

We had appointments in Vientiane to get a no immigrant visa. Guess what, we needed a police report and a medical certificate that no one told us about. Therefore no visa.

I still say
@Brian ******
, your best bet is to apply IN-COUNTRY, for the 90 day Non-O visa

I know for a fact Jomtien issues them, and all it will come down to is whether you meet the requirements or not.

Go to Penang. Just got ours. No problem. Do not go to Laos, they do not do 90 day non o any more.

Ok, just curious
@Hea****
and did you have the police background check, the proof of funds, the medical certificate AND the letter from your consulate stating you are retired?

I know they have the bar set pretty high but I also know people who have gotten them from there.

Tod Daniels no on being over 50.

@Heather *********
weren't you trying to get the Non-O based on being married to someone holding a Non-O based on retirement?

is this statement from
@Heather *********
correct: No more Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age in Laos?
Heather **********
Robert Lagas they may offer it but do not do it.
Robert *******
Where did you get that information, the Thai Consulate in Vientiane still offers it.

@Br***
GO to the immigration office at Jomtien with your bank book GET the hand out (which is exactly what's posted) talk to them and see if you can apply for the in country Non-O with the time you have left on your current entry stamp.

thank you for your time. Much appreciated/

The way it works IS

you need at LEAST 15 days left on your current entry stamp to apply for an in country 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 at the Jomtien immigration office. That's because when you apply it will go under consideration for 14 days then you go back to get the Non-O visa and the new 90 day entry stamp inked into your passport.

After that you need to wait until you have 30 days or less left on that new 90 day stamp before you can apply for your yearly extension.

SO it's a three step process

1 - apply for the Non-O 90 day visa (2000 baht)

wait two weeks

2 - go back get the visa inked in

wait 2 months

3 - go back and apply for your yearly extension (1900baht)

Okay, first off let's hash out what your nationality is and where you are now, AND if how you will meet the requirement for proof of funds.

Khun ******
Take care don't spend money to any Farang Visa money hunter, better visits your next Thai Embassy the will inform about your Visa Typ "O" Multiple 1 Year, not health insurance necessary
John ********
Brian, if you apply for the non O-A outside thailand you will also need to purchase health insurance.

Currently a non O in thailand doesn’t require this .
Phil *******
@Brian ******
yes if that embassy delivers non-O. But have 800K Baht in thai account 2 months before.
