Hello,

Just a quick question to get my ducks in row for when the time arrives.

Can I convert my non ed to a yearly extension based on retirement at my local immigration (chiang mai) or would I have to get a 90 day non o at a nearby embassy?

Cheers for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of converting their Non-ED visa to a yearly extension based on retirement at their local immigration office in Chiang Mai. A comment advises that if the user is still on the first 90-day stamp from the Non-ED visa, they cannot apply for a retirement extension and must leave Thailand to obtain a Non-O retirement visa from a Thai consulate abroad. However, if the user has already extended their stay for studying, they may have the possibility to apply for a retirement extension but should confirm with their local immigration office.

If you are still on the first 90-day stamp from Non-ED, you cannot apply for an extension based on retirement. You have to leave Thailand. You can apply for an initial Non-O retirement visa at the Thai consulate in a neighbouring country or at the local office once you enter again as a tourist.

If you are already on an extension based on studying, you may be able to apply for an extension based on retirement by meeting the requirements. You need to talk with your local immigration office about whether you really can apply for an extension for a different reason from the one with your school for the current extension (by cancelling the current one).

@Ellie ******
thanks for the information. I've still got a while to go on my non-ed I was just trying to get information on the procedure. I have go to immigration next month for a 90 extension and will ask them when I'm there.

Thanks a lot. Now I've got to traipse around all the banks on Monday and try and open an account somewhere!
