TLDR : Answer Summary
The possibility of doing a visa run after a 30-day extension in Thailand is subject to certain rules. You can typically make one more visa-exempt entry if you have not used your full allowance of visa exemptions within the calendar year. However, if you have recently entered Thailand, doing a visa run may bring scrutiny from immigration officials, potentially leading to being denied entry or only being granted a shorter visa exemption if crossing by land. Entering by air may offer a better chance of receiving a 7-day extension upon re-entry. Always be prepared to show an onward ticket to comply with immigration requirements.

You get one 30 day extension and one 7 day per calendar year,just watched the TNT news and it says no extension when entering by land

Definitely by air... Would not take the chance on a border run by land, as heard some stories of people getting denied or only get 30 days exemption (not extention)

The right visa is 60 days , don’t renew, in out on 60 days visas , Thaievisa.co.th

It is precisely for people like yourself that they are changing the rules, you are trying to live in Thailand but without obtaining the correct documentation and paying for the priveledge

So why didn't you get the multi-entry Tourist Visa for your trip because, even before the recent changes, what you are doing was still risky?

no point in trying to help entitled people. They seriously forget that they are guests.

To the OP, the total possible stay in Thailand using Visa Exempt and extensions is 157 days ( 60 + 30 and 60 + 7 ) there are no extensions on land crossing....

@Maitin ******
If you do the maximum total 157 days odds are they will be onto you next visit, someone spending 157 days in Thailand is not a tourist.

I think you meant to reply to someone else. I'm on a long term visa.... Doesn't really matter much to me...

@Maitin ******
I meant it as general, should have said if one instead of if you.

you've already had 3 months, and you want another 6, that's not a holiday, you're trying to do border runs to cheat the system, why don't you get the correct visa instead of being a total prick and fucking it up for everyone else

no I been here 3 weeks I intend to stay away for 6 months total 🤷‍♂️ I know I get 60 day on arrival & can go immigration to extend for 30 day 👍 I only know now that laws have changed ! I will leave after that to go to Vietnam I only wanted to go for 1 week then come back it looks like because of visa law change I will have to spend 1 month there then come back to Thailand for 60 day entry visa and then I will return home ! My HOLIDAY will be completed 👍 thx for your advice but obviously now I know next time I will make correct decision & gain correct visa 🤷‍♂️

visas haven't changed. The entry with "no visa/visa exempt" has been tightened up. Apply for a visa before you arrive would be the best thing to avoid issues.

So you've used 1 visa exempt entry plus a 30 day extension so far and have no previous history? If that's the case in my view you can get 1 more visa exempt entry but won't get an extension at all if you enter by land, if you enter by air you will get 7 days. Then you are done unless you return to your home country before trying to enter again. Even then that "enter again" will be at the discretion of the immigration officer you will stand in front of

You are not planning to do a visa run to a nearby embassy to obtain a new visa; you want to make a border crossing and receive a new 60-day visa exemption. If you do not have any recent or extensive entry history beyond your current entry, you should be able to do so. If you cross by land, you should expect to spend at least one night outside Thailand. You can only receive a 7-day extension on your next visa-exempt entry if you arrive by air. In any case, you should be prepared to present an onward ticket within 60 days.

I have return ticket April 30 to England but to achieve the 6 month stay I intended in Thailand I will need to do 2 visa runs & this is what I’m not sure of ? Can you do 2 visa runs ? Or do I have to leave for 1 month so when I come back from Vietnam I only need the 60 day arrival visa ?

@Steve *********
Everything is at the discretion of the immigration officer, but if you do not have any recent prior entry history, my understanding of the new guidelines is that you may enter and obtain a total of 90 days — that is, a 60-day visa exemption with a 30-day extension, as before — and then make a border crossing by land or air to receive a new 60-day visa exemption. However, you can only obtain a seven-day extension on the second exemption if you arrive by air.

@Steve *********
two is ok but more that than that is very likely to cause problems
Tom ********
As I understand it you could have one more extension and then after that only 7 days.

How many times have you been in Thailand before the current visit ?

If none

Then Yes you should be allowed in for 1 x more 60 day tourist exemption
Jeremy ********
Maybe maybe not

The rules changed, immigration is saying only 2 per calendar year (01 Jan-31 Dec)…but you will be scrutinized at immigration on your past visa exemption stamps

You never know the marching orders of the day from the higher ups as well

So it’s
*****
at best

Good luck

@Jeremy *******
if my third entry is in January it doesn't count like third? My idea is to go to China for a month and come back. Will be my 3rd entry.
Jeremy ********
According to the rule book that may or may not change

On 1 January you as well as everyone else should start at zero

Seeing that it’s not 1 January yet it’s all speculation because well it’s the future

But in theory yes on 1 January it resets…but in practical application it’s the future and nobody can give a rock solid answer

So we wait and we will see on 1 Jan

@Jeremy *******
you are wrong. The visa-exempt entries have not gotten limited to two times per calendar year. Only extensions on visa-exempt 60 days have been limited to two each calendar year. Actually you can do multiple visa-exempt entries if those stays are just short holidays like 2-4 weeks, and if you went back to your home country in between . . .the total visa-exempt stays in one calendar year should not exceed 157 days (some people would say 180 days)
Jeremy ********
That’s a bold statement

Let’s see how that strategy plays out for you
