I'm coming to Thailand with my family on a dtv visa soon. We'll be in Samui. Could we do the 90 day reporting locally? Pardon the ignorance, but what does the full process look like? 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can do the 90-day reporting locally in Samui on a DTV visa. The process requires you to fill out form TM47, and provide copies of your passport, entry stamp, and your DTV visa. Make sure your landlord has submitted the TM30 form, which confirms your residence. For first-time reporting, visit the local immigration office with these documents. After the initial report, you may be able to complete future reports online.

Is there ever a time when a landlord won't be able to give you a TM47?

We did our first 90 day report on Koh Samui a few weeks ago and all they needed was to see our DTV and TM30 from the landlord. We were told didn't need the TM47 🤷🏻♀️

You need a TM 30 certificate; it will be issued to you based on where you will be residing. The property owner must provide rental documents. With this certificate and your passport, go to immigration the first time and submit a 90-day report. This is form TM 47. Next time, you can do this online on the immigration website. No need to go to the office.

Easy to do. Fill in a form TM47, copy passport, entry stamp and print DTV. Ensure you have an up to date TM30 filed by your landlord.
