What should I know about leaving and re-entering Thailand using visa exemption after my retirement visa expires?

Last year I switched from Non-OA to Non-O (retirement) and as this gentleman would like to do, came through after non-oa expired and the officers were ever so kind and there was absolutely no problems or big questions requesting a tourist visa. Penang Immigration via train.

Also have a leaving Thailand ticket and 20k baht or equivalent currency to show.

Nope just leave, and when you come back after the extension expired you're fine

Maybe, passport control could ask you why you didn't get a new year extension and instead are comin' in free stamp.
