Hi, my wife and I arrive in Thailand july 5th and will leave august 12th. I was thinking of going to Vietnam for some days at the end of july, will we then get another visa on arrival (visa exemption or whatever It's called)? Will it be an issue with the Thailand pass when we get back from Vietnam?

We travel from Norway and get 30 days on arrival..

Is this something that we can do now or is it better to just apply for a visa and skip Vietnam?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is asking if they can travel to Vietnam during their stay in Thailand and return with another visa exemption. They arrive in Thailand on July 5th and leave on August 12th, exceeding the initial 30-day visa-exempt period. Comments indicate that they would need to apply for a new Thailand Pass for their return and that they would receive another 30-day exemption upon re-entry. However, they should consider the extension option or the timeline of their stay to avoid any issues with overstaying.

I believe you can get a exit permit. Meaning getting the first visa 60 days, depart to Vietnam, getting exit permit on your way out, and you should be able to return without issue.

Also, I think you will be fine getting two visa exempt, especially if you dont have extensive history in

That's nice to know, I didn't know that you could do that with just the 30 days👍

Yes, a problem for you

You need to do something extension or leave and come back as 5th July to 12th August is more than 30 days. As already said you need to do the pass to return to Thailand and you get another 30 days exempt on arrival.

You will require a ThailandPass to enter back into Thailand. You pass is only good for 1 entry!

You would just have to apply for another Thailand pass before returning to Thailand. (assuming they've not dropped the requirement by July). It's a pretty easy process now. Definitely not difficult enough to consider cancelling your Vietnam trip. And yes, you'll get another 30 day visa exempt stamp on your return

Thanks for your informative answer. I haven't booked the Vietnam trip yet, I guess I should do that before we leave so imigration can see we have a flight out before 30 days?

it's normally at check in that the airlines check you have a return/onward bound flight as they can be held liable apparently, so if you have a return ticket you'll probably be fine but maybe not a bad idea for your own peace of mind. See which airlines allow changes free of charge in case your schedule changes
