TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for a marriage visa after you arrive in Thailand. You can enter the country on a visa exemption or a 60-day tourist visa, and then convert it to a 90-day Non-O visa while in Thailand. One user confirmed they are currently converting their visa after arriving visa exempt and planning to apply for the O Spouse Visa for 90 days, with the intention of obtaining a year extension thereafter.

That’s what I’m in the process of doing now. Arrived visa exempt and applying for O Spouse Visa, 90 days then get the year extension. Immigration Police came to the house yesterday 😀👍🇦🇺🇹🇭

Just so it's very clear to me

A person who wants to visit Thailand from the US can either get entrance to Thailand for less than 30 days as visa exempt

Or obtain a tourist visa from the consulate or embassy in the US

If he is not planning to stay long term, no need to worry about other visas

Thanks

They have made it more difficult to get a Non-Immigrant O visa for marriage in country. Why is it so difficult?

@Ric****
The difficult requirements exist (in theory anyway) to mitigate corruption and people obtaining a visa fraudulently (paying a friend to "marry" you so you can get a marriage visa).

In reality it does stop those arrangements (house visits, ext) but it makes the legitimate visa process much more difficult and pushes people to agents that in turn increases the immigration officers take.

, it was a rhetorical question and I do know the logic, but do other countries go to such lengths? Pictures of you and your wife in various rooms of your house, etc. Come on, simplify things and don't react to every possibility.

the list of requirements have changed , I went yesterday. They have added... Any birth certificates of children, change of name paper of your wife,

family photos and a map of where you stay. ... And some paper connected to the marriage papers I had to go get from banglamung. This was jomtien immigration when I turned up with bank letter of funds, house book, passport, wife's id and bank book plus marriage certificate. Going back today
