Can we change our visa type at Chiang Mai? We came in on visa exempt in March, extended until end of April, and we're now on amnesty. We have the opportunity to volunteer and want to change our visas and get a work permit.

Still holding out for amnesty extension tho ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคž

TLDR : Answer Summary
Changing your visa type from a visa exempt status while on amnesty in Chiang Mai is generally not permitted. You need to have at least 21 days left on your current visa to switch to a Non-Immigrant visa, but being on amnesty means you don't have an active visa stamp, which complicates the process.

All you can do is wait for what they tell amnesty holders to do and then do that

Nope, not from amnesty you can't <- that's because in Chiang Mai to change from a visa exempt to a Non-Immigrant visa inside the country you need at least 21 real days left on your stamp AND because you're on amnesty and amnesty is no stamp your actual stamp expired a good while ago

Thanks. Can it be done in Bangkok? Or is that the same issue with 21 days?
