TLDR : Answer Summary
The possibility of switching from a COVID amnesty visa to a Non-O volunteer visa while remaining in Thailand depends on the specific type of COVID amnesty visa you hold. If you are on a Special Tourist Visa (STV), the answer is NO; however, if you have a different type of amnesty visa, it may be possible to make the change without leaving Thailand.

Work permit is expiring this Feb, unfortunately no new work so we will apply for COVID-amnesty visa.

But will it be possible to change to Non-O volunteer in the future, to stay longer in Thailand, from the amnesty visa without leaving the kingdom?

Liaa Jazelle Francisco. There's no such thing as an amnesty visa. Amnesty finished on 31 October. Everybody now has to have a valid visa/extension or they will be fined for overstay. You may have a "covid extension" but this is not amnesty. The volunteer visa you are talking about, is this a genuine visa or a bogus visa obtained through an agent?

oh okay! My apologies, I may have incorrectly used the term “amnesty visa”. Yes, it’s the COVID extension visa. Is this changing my visa type to another type?

How will we know if it’s the bogus visa? But what we were told there will be a foundation that we can do volunteer work for. Is this illegal?

It's most likely 'bogus' if you've obtained it from an agent and you're not actually volunteering.

oki! I will ask. Havent obtained anything yet as the current WP is still valid. 🙂 Just checking the options we have abt this matter. Thanks so much!

Liaa Jazelle Francisco. Use Google to find the organisations which can arrange volunteer work in Thailand. Generally a volunteer visa works in conjunction with a work permit, and all this can be arranged with the foundation which you will work for. I suggest you start here, and see what work appeals to you and contact the relevant person to discuss further

I see.Quite sure it can change to volunteer visa.Volunteer visa is the easiest choice for people who are under 50 years old.

Covid amnesty visa means STV or other type of visa based on covid?If you are currently holding STV,NO.

/Other types of visa,YES.

@Chan ******
STV has nothing to do with covid amnesty. STV is a new visa type started in the late summer/fall 2020. Allows up to 270 day stay in Thailand.

Ryan Proulx. People still throw around the term "amnesty", but visa amnesty finished on 31 October.

Thank you Ryan, maybe I misunderstood her question.
