TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (OP) inquires about converting their current amnesty visa to a marriage visa in Thailand. Various community members provide insights, clarifying that it is possible to switch from a non-immigrant visa to a marriage-based extension, provided the individual meets legal marriage requirements and financial criteria. They recommend visiting the immigration office for precise guidance, as policies may vary. Additionally, comments address the OP's visa entry type and offer context regarding current visa regulations related to COVID-19.

I'm shutting this down. The OP entered on an RS visa. The only people who can give a straight answer is the immigration office. Take the wife to the immigration office and ask them what the process would be.
Cameron Davis. The first step to get the one year extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national is to be legally married. Do you have the rose border marriage certificate that says you're married legally from the Thai government?

The R/S visa IS a Non-Immigrant type visa (and that should meet the requirement so you can go to a marriage extension) BUT it's gonna come down to your immigration office.
I don't think you would be applying for any "marriage VISA" you would simply be changing your original extension based on research/science to a new yearly extension based on marriage to a thai (even though there's a covid extension after the R/S ran out or was cancelled).
You'd have meet the financial requirements AND definitely check with your immigration office to see if it could be done.
As I said, I don't see why you couldn't go from an extension based on research/science, to a covid extension then to a year marriage extension IF you met the financial requirements
BUT
I'd take your thai wife and go to the immigration office you deal with to see what they say

Helpful background info from prior post...
Good morning, my RS visa expired in April and I have not been able to leave the country to switch to an ED visa as I've been enrolled and attended university since then. I know that to change to an ED visa you have to leave the country. My question is this I just got married this weekend and wanted to know if to apply for a marriage visa I would have to leave the country. And also since I'm going to immigration today to get an extension. Is there a way for me to stay in Thailand for the 60 day seasoning period I would have to have 400k baht?
Are you asking about going FROM a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 TO a one year extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national?
If so, what visa did you use to enter Thailand?
