Good afternoon

Immigration question please

We are NZ passport holders arrived Koh Phangan early March 2020 on 30 day visa and went on to 30day extension prior to amnesty

We have a letter from our embassy stating we can not return to NZ at this time, and are discussing with a Thai registered NGO volunteering for them. We have proof of funds and want to know if we can apply to change to a volunteer visa from in Thailand. The ngo can write a support letter.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A NZ passport holder in Thailand, who has already utilized a 30-day visa and its extension before the amnesty, inquires about changing to a volunteer visa. They have a letter from their embassy and proof of funds to support their application. A comment suggests that it's not possible to change the visa without valid days of stay left on the current visa.

Sorry but the answer is no. You need valid days of stay left on your current stay to apply for a conversion into a visa.

no idea what the emergency reason is used by your embassy, but give it a try

okay, sounds like you can not enter the way you want in stead of a reason why you can not leave, but go and try it out, Maybe you get lucky

thanks. So possibly we can apply for a 30 day extension on embassy letter then immediately apply for volunteer?
