Can I cancel my Non Imm. O 1-year extension of stay and apply for a new visa while it's still valid?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to cancel a Non Imm. O, 1-year Extension of Stay by marriage while it’s still valid and apply for a new one? I will be leaving the country before it expires and won’t be back till after the expiry date. I could just get a new Non Imm. O visa in London but don’t want to have the hassle of going through it all again and then doing the 1-year Extension of Stay upon my return. Has anyone done this or know someone who has?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the possibility of cancelling a Non Immigrant O 1-year Extension of Stay by marriage while it is still valid and applying for a new visa before leaving the country. They expressed concern about the hassle of reapplying for a visa and whether they could directly obtain a new Non Immigrant O visa in London instead.

Unless you have a multiple entry stamp the visa will be non valid as soon as you leave you are right about 45 days but if you go and see your local immigration you might get lucky

Thanks. Yes it’s looking pretty hopeless at this point. I’ll probably have to chalk it down to another victory for Thailand and a loss for common sense. :)

I was replying to John saying visa. I just checked with Tod Daniels. Hes never heard of more than 45 days prior being successful.

I am aware of the differences but only mentioned the previous visa cos you did :) I know it is irrelevant as its already void, but you confused me mentioning re-entry permits. Not renewing the Extension of Stay means also the original O visa is lost as well so a re-entry permit won’t help at all in any scenario. Glad we cleared that up :)

Missing nothing. Just generalising. Youve got an extension , not a visa, so mentioning the previous visa is irellevant as its already void.

Surely the Extension will expire as soon as I leave anyway and don’t renew? What’s the point in having a re entry permit if the visa will be non valid as soon as I leave the country? With or without a re entry permit or multiple entry stamp? Sorry but what am I missing here?

If your on an extension now , the original visa is irrelevant.

Extension will expiire as soon as you leave without a re entry permit.

Many thanks but how does having a multiple entry stamp help? Surely, the visa will be non valid as soon as I leave the country with or without a multiple entry stamp?

How long after it expires are you returning?

. Perhaps its possible in your set of circumstances. I dont see any reason they wouldnt except the "rules" which they seem to have total discretion over anyway..😂

Many thanks. Actually I heard it’s up to 45 days but even that’s not enough.

Just saw that myself.. sorry.. ill try to find out if its possible earlier than 30 days.

thanks but no good. Thought about that but I’ll be gone before those 30 days. I'll be leaving about 65 days before expiry.

You can apply for another yearly extension up to 30 days prior to expiry. But youll need a new passport first. Thatll give you another year but remember to get a re entry permit for when you return later. Only gives you an extra 9 or so months instead of 12 but saves the new visa headache and border bouncing.

I’ll be lecturing in the UK from June 25th to September 14th and the visa expires on August 27th, same as my passport expiry date. That’s actually the reason they gave me that expiry date so I didn’t even end up getting a 1-year Extension of Stay in the end. (The 1-year Extension of Stay date has to match the expiry of the passport date if less.)
