Can I buy a Health Insurance on this Visa or should I buy a Travel Insurance?
These 2 are pretty different and I want to make sure that a Health Insurance would cover in case of need
Many thanks

The conversation highlights concerns about whether to choose health insurance or travel insurance while on a DTV Visa in Thailand. It suggests that health insurance is a more suitable long-term option, as it can provide comprehensive coverage, including outpatient and inpatient costs. It is noted that many people have successfully obtained health insurance in Thailand, but it's important to consider factors like repatriation coverage and the specific terms of the insurance policy. Some commenters recommend purchasing health insurance from one's home country that covers Thai hospitals. The importance of ensuring that the chosen insurance meets personal needs and the implications of claims processing is emphasized.

If DTV, best to buy from home country that covers SEA.
If for whatever reason you require repatriation to you native country, Thai insurance is highly unlikely going to cover that. Look at the many 'go fund me' pages where families/patients can't afford to return home.
In patient Vs out patient costs. Out patient policies more often than not required you to pay upfront for incurred expenses which you then claim back at aater date.
Thai policies will generally be easier to deal with from a hospital perspective for obvious reasons.
You can buy either, theres advanatages and disadvantages to both. If travel make sure it covers things you do (ride motorbikes ? Have a license ?) and its not time limited to shorter journeys.
Health insurance is usually more expensive but more comprehensive.
Anonymous participant 606 I have and it works well, but this insurance obligise me to go back to my country once a year to renew it. It covers 360 days worldwide. I just didnt want to travel back every single year
You can most definitely buy health insurance here on a dtv ….travel insurance vs longer policy would depend on your length of stay , ect …. I would be more than happy to run some quotes for you from different providers…. Feel free to message me at
From my own experience it’s fine , the only thing is I’d recommend finding out about claims ( example if you pay out of pocket) some insurance companies here will only pay back to Thai accounts , ( which you can’t get with a DTV)
