TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion revolves around finding suitable health insurance for a Canadian expat holding an OA visa in Thailand. Several community members suggest options like AXA, known for its EasyCare Visa policy, and AIA, a local Thai insurance company. Users highlight the importance of meeting visa health insurance requirements, sharing personal experiences of both obtaining the insurance and the processes involved in certification when applying from Canada. Recommendations include reaching out to contacts who can provide tailored advice and mentioning specific policies that meet the OA visa criteria.

you can buy the AXA policy for the OA visa directly online.

If you just want a policy to satisfy the OA requirements, go with the AXA easy care. But it’s not a great policy if you actually want to use it in Thailand. I originally got the AXA easy care policy just to get my OA, but when I got to Thailand I bought a much better comprehensive policy through Pacific Cross. Sure it was more money, but having that peace of mind when emergencies come is worth it.

I had O-A Visa for two years, 2023-2025 and I used AXA. The Policy was called EasyCare Visa. I am a US citizen. It met the requirements for the Non O-A Visa at a reasonable price.

Including tax it was $1,327 USD. You will have to fill out a health questionaire and maybe submit documentation if there is health issues. There can be exclusions for existing conditions and a waiting period for all others. However I think for most people the whole point of the insurance is to meet the Visa requirement. Enjoy Thailand

no sweat. Just seems like if it's usable option, great. If they don't have that single page the visa should require it'll be problematic for activating the next year. πŸ‘Œ

My friend called me this morning and could not find much. He thought he sent his healthcare policy but also some paper that you don't have a couple deseases. His doctor had to sign for that. So more I don't know. Good luck ! πŸ€žπŸ™

my questions are in effort for validation as there is an infinite amount of wrong, deceptive, inconsistent or just plain not legal things thrown around by people. πŸ‘Œ

His doctor likely signed off on the required medical for the OA which has nothing to do with the insurance.

The stamp on one piece of paper is what a border agent is going to want to see when activating a second year, so unclear answers give me pause. 😁

but there is a specific certificate that is required and that certificate is the proof on entry, especially year two. I'm unaware how this would work. Anyway, carry on. πŸ‘

you’d have to send the Foreign Insurance Certificate to the Canadian insurance company. Not sure if this line in the certificate would be a problem for insurance companies: β€œinsured person is insured by health insurance in accordance with the law and regulations for foreigners who apply for the Non-Immigrant Visa Type O-A.” They may claim they don’t know.
