Hello all! Quick question for those that have gone thru the DTV Visa process. We are all set to move over in about a month. My question specifically entails setting up private medical insurance in Thailand. Did you guys set up medical insurance before or after arrival? Also looking for some good recommendations for heath insurance brokers.

Thanks in advance for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community discusses the timing and recommendations for setting up private medical insurance for those moving to Thailand on a DTV Visa. Many suggest that securing insurance before arrival can be beneficial. Recommendations include Allianz for long-term stays, and Pacific Cross Thailand as a popular option. Additionally, travel insurance for the first year was mentioned as a viable temporary solution, allowing more time to explore different insurance plans after arrival.

It only covers urgent care and repatriation, but one option is travel insurance for the first year (and self pay for routine care). (Do check policy wording about how they view residence versus travel though, this varies). That way you can take your time and talk to brokers etc to try to make the best choice. One important question is how sure you are about Thailand versus other countries. If you think you might go on to another country then you might want an international policy, or you could get a local one if you only plan to be in Thailand.

If you plan to stay in Thailand for one year or longer, I would recommend Allianz, the world’s No.1 insurance brand. 🌏

I’m an agent who also takes care of clients holding the DTV Visa. There are several plans available with different coverage options and prices.

Feel free to message me for a consultation :)
