Travelling next month from UK applying for SETV 60 days. Here's the question.

I do not need any suggestions about booking a flexi ticket ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

When applying for 60 days can I book a return ticket which will be acceptable on the application for a 90 day return with the intention of extending it the 60 days to 90 days.

Because I am applying for a 60 day SETV, do I only have the option to book a 60-day return ticket?

Also on the application is there a box for any comments that I can make for instance, showing them details on a bus ticket to Malaysia within the initial 60-day period.

I'm not after any other advice or commits... thank you so much I do appreciate genuine replies. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
Answer summary
The inquiry addresses whether it's permissible to book a return ticket valid for 90 days when applying for a 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) in Thailand, with the understanding that the traveler plans to extend their stay to 90 days. Responses indicate that while an airline may not require proof of onward travel for those holding a single entry visa, providing some form of travel proof, such as a return ticket or a bus ticket to Malaysia, can help. It's crucial to check with the specific airline regarding their policies, as requirements can vary. Additionally, submitting a letter of intent to extend, along with any documentation proving the intended travel, is advisable.

For the record, I've applied for the SETV numerous times. The last two times, I included a letter (made a PDF files of my flights and letter) that stated I intended to extend and which Immigration office (in my case Soi 5 Jomtien). I also included extension stamp from previous travel. Never had an issue with the airline (just showed them my Visa), no problem entering (again showed my Visa) and extended within a month of the end of the 60 days.

You do have to submit a file showing a copy of your flights from airline, just telling them the dates is not likely to be enough.

Don't forget to apply for TDAC (you don't have to give them flight out for this) or use THIM app.

You'll need proof of onward travel within 60 days to satisfy your airline and Thai Immigration.

The 30 days extention of stay has to be applied for and is issued at the discretion of your local Immigration Office, it's not a given!

You need to check with your airline as to their requirements

Proof of leaving the country within the 60 days permitted stay is the expected information they require. Return flight is not required so how you do that is up to you if you don't want a flexi ticket. Airlines are the ones are most likely to stop you boarding if you don't have that proof. Other travellers may have never been asked but I have.

Lynnette Munoz you do not get asked for an onward travel proof within the first 60 days by the airline, if you show them a single entry tourist visa. Only when you fly visa-exempt, they can ask. Or when you fly on a one-way ticket

Nongnuch Kamdee you can be asked by airline. Some may not ask, some will. Single entry means you leave within 60 days and many want to see proof you will.

in the field "intended departure date (departure from Thailand)" you insert any date that lies within the first 60 days after your intended entry date. Don't upload any booked tickets, just tell them your "intended dates". In case the embassy wants to see real booked tickets, buy your normal 90-days both ways flight ticket, plus ONE cheap budget carrier ONE-WAY ticket out of Thailand within the first 60 days, like Air Asia from Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur for 40 US Dollar. WARNING: do NEVER upload any "fake" onwardticket into the e-visa application. It is considered an attempt of fraud . . . about the bus ticket to Malaysia, I am not sure if the embassy will accept it. . . On a 60-days tourist visa, the airline normally does not ask you for an onward travel proof, but they CAN. In this case the cheap one-way flight would be the perfect proof

Nongnuch Kamdee The embassy accept bus tickets on Visa exempt sรฅ i belive they do so on a TV as well, but might be different, This is from the Royal Thai Embassy web page in Oslo Norway.

Foreigners entering Thailand by any means under the Visa Exemption scheme are required at the port of entry to have proof of planned travel (confirmed air, train, bus, or boat tickets) to leave Thailand within 60 days of the arrival date. Otherwise, a visa must be obtained before entering Thailand.
