Hey Guys,

I have seen conflicting information so I was hoping I could get some clarification. I am in Hanoi processing my DTV. I am going to be adding my husband as a dependent. It looks like I have to wait for my visa to be approved before applying for him. Do we need to stay out of the country until both of the visas are approved? Would rather not stay in Vietnam so long. Can I add him to my visa from Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification about adding her husband as a dependent while processing her DTV visa in Hanoi. Comments indicate that she cannot add him directly to her visa; he needs to apply for his own DTV visa while remaining in the country where he is applying (Hanoi). The user can leave for Thailand after her DTV visa is issued, but her husband must stay in Vietnam until his application is processed.

As everyone says, your husband needs to remain in the country of application. Why? You're not allowed to come to Thailand when applying; these are offices rules. What can happen? An interview in the country of application and/or proof of location required. If you fail these, they will deny the application and you'll lose your money.

Once your DTV has been issued you can leave but your husband must be in Hanoi (or wherever he applies) when he applies and must remain there until the process completes. You're not adding him to your DTV, he is applying for his own DTV based on being married to you

I think you can be in Thailand while his visa is processing. He can't, tho, as he needs to remain under the jurisdiction of the Embassy, which is never Thailand.
