TLDR : Answer Summary
As a German citizen arriving in Thailand on a visa on arrival, you need to provide proof of onward travel. Specifically, immigration may request a return ticket or a ticket for onward travel, and it's recommended to show a booking that is within 60 days of your arrival, as you plan to extend your stay for another month. Additionally, be prepared to demonstrate proof of accommodation and possibly show cash equivalent to 20,000 THB or similar.
Other option could be get a Single Entry Tourist Visa from a Thai Consulate before you make your way into Thailand. With this visa you get directly 60 days of stay and you can also apply for a 30 day Extension of Stay.
It is named a 30 day Visa Exempt Entry, on arrival Immigration can ask for 20.000 Thb or equivalent currency in cash, proof of onward travel, proof of accommodation. As Immigration knows you can extend your 30 days of stay, they allow proof of onward travel within 60 days.
the thing is the airline wouldnt allow him to fly by a return ticket which is 60 day later. because 30 day extension is not guaranteed. SETV is better and cheaper option..
