Hi guys,

This question might have been asked before but please allow me to ask.

Has anyone ever experienced applying for a “transit visa” after getting your “tourist visa”?

I’ve got my tourist visa in Phnom Penh but I have a change of plan(due to work). And I need to apply for a transit visa.

Do I need to cancel my tourist visa or I can just apply for another visa without any issue?

I’ve tried asking the embassy but haven’t got the reply yet. If anyone has ever experienced it, can you please kindly share your experience?

TIA

Edited because my post might not be clear.

I think I was not clear enough for my situation. Please allow me to explain.

I’m a sailor. My previous plan was to come to Thailand with tourist visa for vacation.

But now plans have changed because I now have to come to Thailand to join a ship and do some documents for only like 20 days. Then, I’ll leave Thailand with a ship because that’s where I’ll be working.

As a sailor, I’m required to come to Thailand with a transit visa if I’m joining a vessel. Also, I’ll be renewing my passport in my country’s embassy while I’m in Thailand for about 20 days. For renewing, I’ve enquired my embassy and they told me specifically that I’ll have to come with a transit visa. That’s why I can only come to Thailand with a transit visa not with a tourist visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the process of applying for a transit visa after obtaining a tourist visa due to a change in plans related to their work as a sailor. They are uncertain whether they need to cancel their tourist visa to apply for the transit visa, as the latter is required for joining a vessel in Thailand. Commenters suggest that a tourist visa may suffice for entry, while others speculate the user may want to reserve their tourist visa for future use.

I think he wants to ‘save’ the TR visa to use anther time. Hence, Use the Transit visa when he comes in on the ship.

Your question doesn't really make sense. There's nothing a transit visa will let you do that a tourist visa will not. A tourist visa will just give you a longer stamp when you enter Thailand. The visa is just permission to enter Thailand. Keep your tourist visa and use it to transit.
