Can I apply for a Thai visa at the consulate using my old passport information while waiting for my new passport?

Thai Consulate Vientiane. I know I need to book an appointment ahead of visiting.

I am waiting on the arrival of a new passport. It should arrive before Songkran, but it may be delayed by the holidays.

Question: Can I make the consulate appointment with my *old* passport number and use the email confirmation plus the old, canceled passport to enter the Thai Consulate and then apply for a visa in my new passport?

From my understanding, your passport number must match the email confirmation. If I provide all of this evidence, will common sense prevail?

Thanks in advance for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry revolves around booking a visa appointment at the Thai Consulate in Vientiane while waiting for a new passport. The person is asking if it's permissible to use the old passport number for the appointment and if bringing the old, canceled passport along with an email confirmation will suffice for the application process once the new passport arrives. The responses suggest consulting the consulate for a definitive answer but hint at the likely requirement of the new passport for a successful visa application.

I’ll enter Laos with it. And have it for my Thai visa.

I don’t know the connection between the guard gate and the officials and processors.

Maybe the computer system tells them exactly which passports will submit applications that day.

Maybe it’s only a formality to enter. And what is written on the application matters more than how you got in that day.

It’s an oddly specific question. I will attempt to contact the consulate asap.

sorry to disappoint you. The John Belushi the world knew and loved passed away in 1982.

I only share a name.

Ask the Thai Embassy in Vientiane, only they can give you a definitive answer. Personally I wouldn't chance it.
