Hi guys

Just applied for mine and husbands 60 day tourist visa. Not I am worried it might be refused because I didn’t realise that we had to be physically in UK to do it. We are on holiday in Spain at the moment but could not wait any longer as due to fly out of UK on 4th December. Any device on should I be worried it will be refused because they know we are not in UK even though we are residents in UK and all supporting documents show this?
Answer summary
An expat expressed concern about applying for a 60-day tourist visa for Thailand while currently in Spain, rather than the UK, where they are residents. Conflicting opinions were shared regarding the necessity of being in the UK for the application. Some commenters reassured the expat that as long as they are applying from a residence country, their current temporary location should not matter. Others emphasized that the application can be done from any Thai consulate worldwide, without the concern of being denied based purely on temporary location.

Who says you need to be in your home country to apply for 60 days SETV?

This is written in the evisa site:

"It is important to note that you are only able to apply if you are currently not in Thailand. "

Nothing about be out of the residence country.

I don't believe they will check your IP address and I don't think they will ask you to go into the embassy office for interview.

And I think with 'current location' they mean the country where you have residence, not where you are temporarily for any reason like a vacation.

Anyway, if they deny your visa you can use plan B ( 30 days extension in Thailand)

Marcello Giustiniani ‘Current location’ is exactly what it says. Otherwise it would ask for country of residence.

Marcello Giustiniani Thank you I appreciate that. Just have to keep everything crossed and hope for the best. Worst case is hubby gets to visit KL and the Petronas towers. ( I’ve been lots of times😂)

So you lied on the application saying that you're currently in the UK? You can apply for a tourist visa through virtually every Thai consulate worldwide, should have just said you're currently in Spain.

I didn’t lie wankey, I did not realise we had to actually physically be in UK just UK residents. If you have nothing to offer why are you here? There is always one sadly 🙄

Ronny Liekens Thank you Ronny, I will be returning to UK to fly out so that isn’t an issue. Just wondering How Thai officials would know I am or have been to Spain when no stamp in passports anymore? As everything was paid for before the new visa situation was announced then put in place it’s too much money to lose so if we don’t get them we will enter visa free then before we go I will book flights to KL for a 4 nights then fly back which should satisfy the airline that we have onward flights. Not ideal but too much money to lose. To be fair we would have gone to Vietnam had we had any idea this was going to happen as we travel a lot so being in UK for the visa Application was always going to be tough.

Barbara Anne I fear it is easy to check where you are because you left that notion when you went trough British immigration to go to Spain You got two possibilities or you do a new request on Thai embassy in Spain but I fear because coming high season you will not get Visa quick enough You also got to stay the compleet time of the application in the country where you are The second possibility is to enter on Visa exempt if you got a passport what is applicable (British is included) With the visa exempt you can stay 30 days in Thailand with a possible extension of 30 days in the local immigration office Al tough if you want to stay longer than 30 days the Spanish check in officer wil ask for outbound ticket before the 30 days are over You can solute that by buying a cheap outbound ticket of any transport that you are not going to use Or you do a border run coming back a day(s) later to get in back for a new 30 days Visa exempt period with the last method you already got bought an outbound ticket that you really gone use ( and can show in Spain), with this method no extension is needed.

Jared Jernegan Thanks, we are resident in UK but on holiday in Spain. It seems to say on the Thai embassy website not the e visa one which I just found that we are meant to be in UK when applying and until it is issued so hoping they don’t check. I use a VPN to watch UK TV when away and it was still on when I did mine but had gone off when I did husbands 2 days later.

Barbara Anne you can apply for single entry tourist visas in most countries, METV you generally need to apply from your country of residence with a couple exceptions

Wayne Roberts Thank you Wayne I appreciate you taking the time to post. It is what it is thought originally then I read something saying you had to be in UK until the visa was issued which made no sense to me really .

Or else you're going back to UK and flying from there in which case cancelable doesn't matter
