Can I apply for a Non-O visa from outside Thailand after ensuring the required funds for three months?

For non-O online, I didn't wind up having funds for 3 months (just sold my home in Sep) I am arriving Oct26. Is the recommendation to leave Thailand and apply again from outside once I have the three months of funds, in Dec? Will that be the easiest path, and could I accomplish this from Vietnam? I'll still have a US address I can use for the application.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the best approach to apply for a Non-O visa in Thailand, given that they will not have the necessary funds in their Thai bank account until December. They are considering whether to leave Thailand and apply for the visa from Vietnam or apply while in the country. Comments suggest applying for the Non-O visa in the USA before arriving in Thailand, as this would grant a 90-day stay. Additionally, it is mentioned that if the user has a Thai bank account and transfers required funds, they could apply for the visa without meeting the three-month fund requirement if applying from within Thailand.

Do you have a Thai bank account ?

If you already maintain a bank account in Thailand and transfer the required funds, you may apply for a Non-O visa from within Thailand without the necessity of keeping the funds in the account for three months. This requirement applies solely to the first year’s extension of stay, for which the funds must remain in the account for a minimum of two months prior to submission of the application. Should you apply from Vietnam using a US passport, you are required to provide an address (or accommodation) in Thailand as part of the application.

So I need almost 100,000 baht in my account to be approved for a non O retirement visa? But does it have to be seasoned?

where are you going to Apply for the Non O Visa?

thanks Jan. My funds are in a US account. It looks like I will have to bounce to Vietnam and apply for the visa in Dec, when the funds will have been in my account for three months. I can keep an accommodation in Chiang Mai during that time. Do you think this is my best path?

As
@James *******
suggests, I believe it is entirely possible to apply for a Non-O visa if you can provide either an updated or a three-month bank statement showing a balance of 800,000 baht, without the requirement that the funds have been maintained in the account for three full months. However, if you intend to apply based on monthly income, you must document that you have received this income for at least three consecutive months. The simplest option is certainly to try applying now before you travel. Alternatively, you may also apply from a neighboring country with funds held in a U.S. bank account. The address requirement in Thailand is not particularly strict at the time of application; a hotel booking for a certain period is usually sufficient. If you have a private address, you should of course provide that. (The earlier comment was only in reference to your still having an address in the U.S., which is not relevant when applying from outside the U.S.)

the Chicago Thai Consulate requires PROOF of your having a Bank account with a statement balance of US $17,000 or show PROOF of monthly income of US $2,500 or more.

when you apply for the Non O Visa in the USA, there's NO 3 MONTHS REQUIREMENT SHOWING BANK ACCOUNT BALANCE OF 800,000 THAI BAHT

@James *******
This is an issue I am also struggling to understand. I live in Wisconsin and my Thai consulate is in Chicago. Are you saying I will be approved for a non O retirement visa if my final bank balance is 800,000 baht for only a week or two?
James ********
James ********
Note the financial requirement for the Non O Visa as a retiree from the Thai Consulate in Chicago is US $30,000 on deposit in any bank account in your name. OR PROOF of monthly income of US $2,500 or more

@Doug ******
yes... and the Chicago Thai Consulate is VERY friendly. Answers phone calls and emails.

I wasn’t entirely sure whether he had received this information directly from the embassy responsible for his area, or if he was referring to the three-month requirement in the e-visa portal. When applying based on monthly income, you must present three months of documentation. However, if you apply instead on the basis of a lump sum in your account, it should be sufficient to show that the funds are there cf "current balance", (although the requirement in the e-visa portal may appear somewhat ambiguous on this point).

gotcha, yeah for the application I submitted, they are insisting I show the balance has been maintained over three months. Thanks for your help. Sounds like I'll have to apply again from a neighboring country, as I would like to avoid the ticket prices back and forth from the US

where did you SUBMIT your application for the Non O Visa?

@Drew ********
where are you now ? What is your resident State in the USA?

If you have received this information from the embassy or the consulate responsible for your area, you must of course follow their instructions. The strictness of practice varies between different foreign missions. Others could probably have accepted just the final account balance. If you are staying in Chiang Mai, there are also several reports of a quick and smooth application process via the embassy in Vientiane—just as a tip. Best of luck in any case!

Suggest you apply for the Non O Visa in the USA before you leave for your flight to Thailand.

Look at the Thai Embassy or Consulate which serves the State where you reside.

You should be able to get the Non O approved before you leave the USA.

Upon arrival into Thailand, you will be stamped in for 90 days.

Go to the local Thai Immigration office where you will live in Thailand and ask for their requirements for the One year extension of stay as a Non O Visa holder.

As you stated you should have the required funds in a Thai bank account soon after you arrive. And opening the Thai bank account is easier to do with a Non O Visa in your passport.

Use the Evisa online application system for making your Non O Visa application.

Select the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you live in the USA. Go to its website for their requirements for the Non O Visa.

I did this, James. My funds were not in my US account for 3 months, as I just sold my home. I will be traveling to Thailand this month. Should I leave the country in Dec to apply again? At that time the funds will have been in my IS account for three months.

I'm going to allow comment on your Post for one final hour. Much has been said by forum members and myself in reply to your Post.

Please Read carefully the Chicago Thai Consulate website and its requirements for the Non O Visa as r6etiree.

@Drew ********
which State do you live in, in the USA?
James ********
As you can see..

It's easier to obtain the Non O Visa as retiree from the USA... Even a Combination of monthly income AND Bank account balance can be used
James ********
The other Thai Embassy or Consulates in the USA have similar requirements for the Non O Visa as retiree.

IF you obtain the Non O Visa as retiree in the USA, there is no requirement that the 800,000 Thai baht must be in a bank account for 3 months.

Only show PROOF of your having a bank account balance of 800,000 Thai baht.

THIS is FROM the Los Angeles Thai Consulate website...

Non O Visa as retiree...

Applicant must have a bank deposit of

4.1 Account balance no less than 800,000 Baht or

4.2 an income certificate (an original copy) with a monthly income (pension) of not less than 65,000 Baht, or

4.3 a deposit account plus a monthly income (pension) totaling not less than 80,000 Baht.

5. Hotel booking or accommoddation arrangements.

6. Itinerary showing flight from U.S. to Thailand and flight out of Thailand.
