Can I apply for a METV after being in Thailand with a TR visa, or re-enter using a visa exemption?

Hi everyone, I am currently in Thailand with a TR60+30d extension+ 1 covid extension, leaving the country before the end of my extension.

I will be abroad for a month or so, and would like to apply for a METV after (from Singapore, where I have residency).

Is it possible, after a Single entry TR visa?

If not, as I can get the visa exemption 30+30, can I re-enter using this? Is there a limitation to the number visa exemptions you can get in 1 year, provided that you get out of the country every time (for several weeks)?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Thailand on a TR visa with extensions and plans to leave for a month before applying for a METV in Singapore. They ask about the possibility of obtaining a METV and whether they can use a visa exemption for re-entry into Thailand, along with any limitations on the number of visa exemptions per year. Responses indicate that applying for a METV in Singapore is possible, and there are no limits on visa exemptions when re-entering by air, but there may be questions from immigration regarding frequent stays.

I did exactly like you. I'm Indonesian, came to Thailand on December 2021 with TR60+30 days ext+ 1 time Covid extension then left before my visa expired. 2 weeks after that I came back here using my free 30 days exemption, and at DMK airport the immigration officer (3 of them) came to me when I was in the immigration counter and asked questions regarding my previous 4 months time here. What did I do and if I'm a tourist, why did I need 4 months to be inside the country. I explained everything, showing my return ticket, bank statements, and insurance, and they finally stamped my passport and let me in. I think that's mostly because those 4 months was considered as still in the COVID rampant era and it's unsafe to travel around or outside. So I'm not sure how the immigration will be with the situation is better for travelling now.

thanks a lot for your reply! Indeed, it seems a bit tricky. I might stay away from Thailand for a while (maybe a few months) to avoid this discussion with the Immigration officer.

Did you say that you stayed for that long because you couldn't travel somewhere else? Or just tourism?

that's quite intense.. I wonder if someone had the same experience in other arrival cities (Phuket/Krabi). That's very good to know anyway, thanks a lot for sharing!

and even though you apply on-line for pre-approval with the Singapore Thai Embassy... recently a person who had been pre-approved for a new tourist visa was denied by the Thai Embassy in Singapore when they saw their recent history stamps of staying in Thailand. They cancelled his visa approval.

I did have to explained quite details. I said that I can't go back to my country because they require me to have a booster vaccine, and I hadn't that time. I can't go outside Thailand either because not many countries open, and I told them that I travel inside Thailand instead, they seems have the records in their system showing my movement to each places based on which hotel that I stayed. They confirmed it to me, that I travel to 12 cities during my 4 months here, and I said yes. So I guess they kinda okay because it means I'm really a traveller, eventhough a slow one since I took 1 week+ in each place.

You can apply for the METV in Singapore, be aware they use their own on-line system.

There is no minimum time a person must be outside Thailand to apply for a new visa, there is also no limit on how many Visa Exempt Entries a person can use when flying into Thailand, it is only limited to 2 a calendar year when using land borders.

BUT the Thai Immigration Officers are allowed to start asking questions on why you use this kind of visa or visa exempt to live and work inside Thailand.

Thanks a lot, very clear.

Where can I find the link for the METV application? (I usually use the normal application with the French embassy, as I am French and the process is easier)

, I've checked the page and can't find any type of METV. There is just the normal single entry TV and the STV (also single entry). Did I overlook something here?

I agree as it is not on the embassy info page. I tried to apply online but to much information needed to continue.
