Can I apply for a Thai DTV visa online from Germany if I'm deregistered and currently in Bali?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been in touch with an agency that is helping me with my DTV application.

My situation is: I’m a German citizen, but I’m deregistered from Germany and currently living in Bali. 
The agency told me that I could either apply for the visa online via Germany or fly to Vietnam, and they actually recommended Germany.

Does anyone here have any experience with that?
I was a bit unsure because I’m deregistered from Germany and definitely don’t want to trigger any tax liability or anything like that.

Sounds like they don't know what they're doing. FWIW I am a German citizen, deregistered and all, applied in Jakarta while in Bali, and it was perfectly fine. As the others said, in any case you have to apply in the country/territory where you currently are.

I (German citizenship) applied successfully via Jakarta, why don’t you do that? The embassies in Germany are usually more strict with everything

Vietnam, Laos, even Indonesia is better than germany. I did mine in cambodia but I dont know how the situation is atm between them

Why would there be any tax liability? That is not how our tax system works.

And to come to Germany and stay 3 weeks to apply for the visa (or less if it is processed quicker) you do not need to registere here.

However the visa process might want a proof of address. So worst case you register and deregister again.

Bottom line I agree, flying for that to Germany is a costly thing. Does not really make sense.

Which Consulate is the best in Asia, not sure. It seems to change all the time :D

All applications are done online, but you need to select the embassy that represents the location where you are physically.  If you are in Indonesia you apply via Jakarta

I applied from Germany, also not registered there, and they required me to get my work permits certified in two different embassies (uae) even though the documents couldn’t be more official in the first place… I heard better things doing it via Vietnam but my uae setup might be why it’s complicated. I don’t think applying from Germany will trigger any tax responsibilities but you will need to show that you are in Germany when applying, flight ticket, rental contract etc

Why not apply via Jakarta Embassy from Bali? Vietnam is a good choice.
