My wife and I are Spanish nationals living in Georgia on temporary residence, and we just submitted our DTV (Workcation category) applications to the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid. Wanted to share our experience in case it helps someone else, especially around one point that had us confused for a while.
Since the new rule changes , the portal added a new checklist item:
"Proof of permanent residence in the country where the application is submitted." Since we live in Georgia but apply through Madrid (our jurisdiction as Spanish citizens, regardless of where we currently live), this looked like a real problem at first , we don't have a residence address in Spain anymore, and in Georgia we have a temporary residence permit, not permanent.
After digging into it, we think we found the answer on the Royal Thai Embassy in Madrid's own website.
It says that if your nationality is not Spanish or Andorran, you need an NIE or a Spanish/Andorran residency card, and that if you don't have legal residence in Spain or Andorra, you can't apply through this consulate at all.... if you read the other way around: if you ARE Spanish (or Andorran), it's your nationality that ties you to this consulate, and your national ID (DNI) is what satisfies that checklist item , no separate proof of residence in Spain is needed, even if you actually live abroad. I hope we are right
so, for the proof of residence, we submitted a copy of our IDs, passport, flight tickets from Georgia to Spain and bank statements proving that we are in Spain right now
our applications are in process, fingers crossed we get approved! Will update this post once we hear back.
