What documents do I need to prove residence ties when applying for a Thai visa from outside my country of residence?

Hey everyone, in reading through as many posts here as I can and after calling the embassy of my home country I'm still a bit confused on how to handle my situation regarding location and residence.

I have a country of residence, I am currently not in (which does NOT have a Thai embassy). I also left my country of citizenship I was visiting recently which does have a Thai embassy with which I spoke to. My business is US based although I'm neither a resident or citizen there and not present there either.

I'm getting a lot of mixed information, I've read that I need documents proving my residence ties to my country of permanent residence (utility bill, residence card etc). I've also read I need proof of my current location, which also often seems to be documents related to residence? So I'm confused.

When I spoke to the representative from the embassy she really emphasized the importance of showing residence ties to your permanent place of residence not my current location, although she seemed to indicate my original home country would be acceptable too.

On another note did anyone apply from their home country that is no longer their permanent residence? If so what documents did you use?

So I'm at a bit of a loss here. I read about people traveling to Laos, Vietnam etc to apply for their evisas, I could do the same and am considering it. I just know my situation is a little more convoluted than most and applying through a foreign embassy as a tourist may only further complicate things. Any suggestions or clarifications are welcome. 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is confused about how to approach applying for a Thai visa due to their unique circumstances, involving multiple countries. They are seeking clarity on documentation needed to prove their residence ties, especially since they are not currently in their permanent residence country, which does not have a Thai embassy. Responses from the community suggest that applicants can often apply from any country, proving their current presence with entry stamps and hotel bookings rather than permanent residency documents.

Make it easy for your self, and submit the application in the country, where you have permanent residency, also much better to stay in your home, while waiting for the DTV to be approved, instead of waiting in another country, where you have nothing else to do than wait.

Since most documentation also will originated from the country of residence, it will make the approval process easier too.

Be aware that if you are from certain countries, the processing time will be ( much ) longer if your nationality and residency isn’t the same.

I did apply from my home country (uk) but all I actually uploaded to prove my residence was a picture of my uk drivers license

You can apply from virtually any country. You are confusing resident with residence. They simply want you to prove you are in the country, entry stamp/visa and hotel booking. You're making too much of it.

What passport do you hold?

Anonymous participant we are Canadian too and have here and there, having been here in Thailand in and out for a few years prior to dtv. We went to CHMC to apply for our dtv and hubby got approved and mena few days later after reentering Thailand. So it's not complicated it's just a bit confusing on what to declare as your permanent address..for us since still have.properties in Canada we just used one that is in our drivers license and put in HCMC hotel as current location.

Anonymous participant You are fine to apply in many countries. A large number of posts are from applicants who applied in a country they visited as a tourist.

You can apply in many SE Asian countries easily just upload your passport stamp of entry and hotel booking to satisfy the residential requirement.

Gotcha, so that would satisfy the location requirement and then there's an additional requirement for documentation to verify your permanent residence? Is that correct?

Anonymous participant a copy of your passport does that.

You can start a application, and see excactly what information you need to supply, if you get stuck at any point, you can continue from that point at a later date, if ie. you need to get additional informations from other places.

So start the application, instead of worrying.

Anonymous participant There is no documentation needed to show permanent residency unless you are a permanent resident of the country you are applying in. If you apply in SE Asia you only need to proof your location.
