TLDR : Answer Summary
You cannot convert a 12-month Non-O multi-entry visa directly into a retirement visa while in Thailand. If you entered with a Non-O visa, your first extension must be for the same reason that the visa was issued. To apply for a retirement visa, you must do so from your home country or apply for a new visa at the embassy while meeting the necessary requirements. You can stay in Thailand under the Non-O visa for up to 12 months before needing to make any changes.

There aren't any non O with multiple entries. You can apply directly for the O-A visa with multiple entries and validity of one year directly online at the embassy where you live. You just have to prove that you have at least the equivalent of 800,000 baht in your account in the last 3 months. That way you don't pay twice for the visa like you would if you applied for non O and also applied in Thailand for O-A. I don't understand those who leave with O and waste time and money in Thailand for OA.

You cannot get a Non-OA in Thailand, you purchase a 12 month extension based on the original Non-O for 1900B by meeting the requirements. In fact a Non-OA is a waste of money as an in country 12 month extension requires the continuation of the mandatory Thai insurance plus the same 800k financials as the Non-O extension so a double whammy.

I probably don't understand it well, but a non O visa is valid for 90 days and during this time you have to open a bank account and deposit the 800,000 to benefit from the one-year extension of the visa. I don't know if it is also mandatory to purchase medical insurance to obtain the extension, but at my age I think it is necessary to have medical insurance. I understood that the non O visa is granted for 90 days but I don't understand if after the extension it is possible to stay permanently for a year or only 90 days during a year. What I also understood is that the non O is no longer granted for multiple entries and exits. I would like some clarifications if possible. Thank you.

The initial Non-O is 90 days then extend for 12 months every year thereafter by meeting the requirements with no mandatory insurance

@Graham *****
So after the 90 days expire, is it possible to apply for a one-year visa and stay for a year, not just 90 days in a year? What about entering and leaving the kingdom? Can multiple entries be granted?

Yes, when you have less than 30 days of your 90 left and your 800k banked money has seasoned for 2 months you can apply for your first 12 month extension (or you may be able to use an income affidavit from your Embassy if they still issue them). Go to your Immigration Office before hand to get THEIR list of requirements for this extension and away you go. You will need a re-entry permit, 1000B for single or 3800B for multiple, get it when your 12 months have been inked in.

Ok. Thanks. I understand now. I already applied and received the OA visa online directly from the Embassy, but I didn't understand why some people apply for non-O

If you enter with a 90 day Non-O Visa your first 12 month Extension of Stay must be for the same reason your Non-O was issued. After one year your reason for the new extension can be changed by meeting the requirements.

There is no non-o multi entry visa you get a non- o good for 90 days you get here open a bank account and transfer in 800k baht in your name and season it for 2 months then apply for a year extension or if your embassy still issues income verification you can use that once you get your 1 year extension you apply for a multiple re entry permit

But without a bankaccount you won't get the extention.

@Olav ********
Not generally true. I got a bank account with the 90 day non-o.

Afterwards I got my yellow book and pink card.

@Donald *********
and in your passport itt saied you was cleard for one year but you need to stamp ewery 3 monthes.

Seriously? What has 90 day reporting got to do with anything? If you post things, make sure they’re factual and not fantasy and whatiffery!

Fact: it is possible to open a bank account with a 90 day No-O visa without the need for a 12 month retirement extension.

@Donald *********
yes l se l was wrong😇
Bob **********
@Olav ********
so how did you get your visa
Olav *********
@Bob *********
lm on a retire visa, and to get the bank acount you need to go to immigration and ask to be written in to a residents blue book, they then give you a paper you go to the local amphoe office with and show your passport and the paper.Then you need a local/village elder/worker to give green light you live where you say.Then they will give you a yellow book and pink card and you can go to the bank and open the acount. Its a lot more work now after the new monney laundering laws hawe come.

you can definitely open a bank account on a non-o visa with a residence certificate

With a one-year Non O-A visa with multiple entries, you may, under certain conditions, stay in Thailand for up to two years before applying for a new visa.

If you are planning a longer-term stay in Thailand, the most practical option is to apply for a standard 90-day Non O visa before travelling and then obtain annual extensions of stay at Immigration in Thailand.

You cannot convert your visa into anything else, but you can apply for a new visa at the embassy in your home country or apply for a temporary stay permit -Extension of Stay- at Immigration in Thailand.

Fifteen months refers to a 90-day Non O visa followed by a one-year extension of stay at Immigration in Thailand.

I know, that’s why I’m explaining the actual alternatives.
