TLDR : Answer Summary
You cannot apply for a one-year extension for your NON-IMM O visa immediately after entering Thailand. Typically, you must wait about 1.5 to 2 months after your arrival to submit your extension application. Some immigration offices, like those in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, allow applications when your initial stay is down to 45 days, while most others accept applications with 30 days or less remaining.

Ok, thank you. I am having a hard time getting the 1 year extension as i work away month on month off, so been here at the correct time and having 4 weeks available to not have a passport while immigration keep it is proving difficult.

You cannot apply for a 1-year extension for the same reason as your initial visa immediately after entering Thailand. You have to wait for 1.5 months to 2 months for the earliest application, depending on your local immigration office. Some offices, such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, etc., accept extension applications when your stamp remains 45 days or less, while most offices let you apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less.
