Hello, I’d like to ask if anyone has experience giving birth to a child in Thailand while holding a DTV visa.

After the baby gets their passport, can the baby’s visa/status follow the parent’s DTV as a dependent? Would the baby also be able to stay in Thailand for 6 months at a time and have the same 5-year validity as the parent’s DTV?
Answer summary
The baby born in Thailand to foreign parents on a DTV visa does not automatically receive dependent visa status. After obtaining the child's passport, parents must apply for a dependant DTV from outside Thailand. While children under 14 are exempt from penalties for overstaying, it is advisable to secure the dependent visa to avoid complications.

I just got my son’s DTV approved in Laos three days ago. He’s three months old and is a U.K. citizen but was born in Thailand. They were strict when we excited Thailand and also Laos.

Make sure you leave Thailand and get the DTV as soon as you get their passport. It’s not worth the stress. All it is going to take is one bad immigration officer who wants to question why your baby has no visa.

Good luck

Any children in Thai are exempt from overstay, don't need a visa

The baby does not get the dependent status automatically. The baby needs to apply from outside Thailand separately for DTV as a dependent. It’s the same process like for any normal person

This has been asked multiple times in the past but any child born to a foreign couple in Thailand isn’t automatically granted any visa status.

You would be required to obtain a passport for your child, and apply for a dependant DTV for them at a consular office outside of Thailand.

It should be noted though that children 14 years of age or younger aren’t penalized for overstays like adults are. The overstay will be noted but they won’t be banned or fined for overstaying but it’s not ideal to constantly have your child racking up overstay stamps as it shows your own disregard for the law.

I would just get the visa on the first lap out of the country easy done

KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 she even needs to do that, otherwise the baby can stay in Thailand only on the 60 day visa exemption, if stays longer that will be overstay and will get the overstay stamp which will probably lead to bigger problems in the future
