My sister and I (German passport holders) are currently in Laos but have to travel back to Thailand as our return flight leaves from Bangkok. Has anyone tried to get stamped back in to Thailand in the last couple of days? We donโ€™t have a visa, just got the 30 day passport stamp when we got to Thailand on 9 March... (We do have Travel insurance and medical cert) thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on returning to Thailand from Laos without a visa, having entered Thailand earlier with a 30-day stamp. Comments indicate that borders were closing, but some travelers succeeded in entering with a medical certificate. Suggestions include trying to fly or use land routes, with updates on changing immigration rules.

For anyone interested, this is the med cert we got in Luang Prabang this morning, cost about 10$/110.000 kip, will try to board the apparently last flight out tomorrow morning and will hopefully get stamped into Thailand...

the boat option is still doable, as is the land border entry into Thailand . . the flight being the seemingly quickest solution, and the land border the "easiest" crossing . . wish you all well . go ahead and don't you worry too much

wishing you good luck!

I heard someone did. They got a 30 day visa exemption when they crossed over. But that was a long long time ago (yesterday, I think).

The rule has been issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand. As such, as written, it _should_ only apply to air entries. It's a rule about getting onto a plane rather than an immigration rule as such.

please tell us about the outcome. It could be of great help for other people

so we have to wait. But for
@Sarah ********
it is advised that she travels by land, as she will not be able to fly to Bangkok from Luang Prabang . she could however try to check-in. If she gets checked in, everything is fine! She can still ask at the airport if her airline will check her in with the "small" medical cert. If negative, she knows her route will be over land

The new rules start at midnight. Whatever happened before no longer applicable (but yes, people were getting stamped in today)

Out of interest, could you show us the medical certificate you have?
Gregor **********
you could of course also take the boat ride back to Chiang Kong and cross into Thailand there in Ban Huayxxai

thinks that it is possible to cross over a land border into Thailand with the simple medical letter you already have. The "Covid19-free Certificate" is just for air travel, he says and is absolutely sure about that. So your situation demands a different approach: As you will not be able to achive such a certificate in a timely manner, just don't fly out to Bangkok, but get a bus from Luang Prabang to Vientiane (or a longtail boat!) and cross the land border into Thailand at Nong Khai. You will receive a new 30-days visa exempt entry stamp, allowing you a smooth stay in Thailand until your return flight to Germany
