Can my friends apply for a Thailand eVisa while in Mexico, and can they extend their 30-day visa in Bangkok?

Hello

I have 2 friends trying to get a evisa for Thailand while living in Mexico, they are Canadian and American. The first page states that they cannot submit an evisa because of where they are and that they would have to take a flight to Mexico City to submit in person.

I have 2 questions if anyone could help me.

Has anyone encountered this type of thing?

Is it possible to get a 30 day visa extention in Bangkok while have only been 19 days in Thailand?

I appreciate your time with any advise you have?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses challenges faced by Canadian and American friends attempting to apply for a Thailand eVisa while in Mexico. It notes that the first page of the eVisa application indicates they must submit in person in Mexico City. Responses indicate that the Thai embassy in Mexico may not process eVisas yet. For visa extensions, one response confirms they can apply for a 30-day extension in Bangkok if they initially enter Thailand with a visa exempt stamp.

Absolutely they can apply for a eVisa while in Mexico from the Embassy of Thailand DC. I am a US citizen and applied for a visa while in Mexico. The first page is only there for entertainment purposes. The embassy will want to see flight details to Thailand and I would recommend showing US to Thailand if possible (a lot of Flights from the Americas route through US).

I couldn't speak to the Candian's situation.

I am looking at different visa options now. The requirement for a tourist visa, "Document indicating current location (driving license, bank statement, or proof of stay)". I have a driver's license and passport from the US. Driver license and Bank Statement do not indicate current location in the strictest sense of the word, and are acceptable.

You got bad advice. I realize (now) the first page of what appears to be the application process asks "current location", but that isn't actually part of the visa process. In the actual visa process the two questions are worded differently, "Where are you permanent resident" and "Where is your passport from", of course they are worded differently. Regardless of where a person is actually, does not change the answer to those two questions. Hence, you don't even have to lie.. But none the less, they don't check your physical location, the look at your flights. For me it was sufficient to show a flight into Thailand, (Once I was in Mexico, Once I was in Indonesia, later this month I will be in the Philippines).

More practically, You take a risk. You take a similar risk if you apply in person with all the correct paperwork. The embassy can always deny you a visa for any reason. Your risk is $60/USD. I would encourage you to fill out the application online, answer the questions, submit the various paperwork they request, and before you make payment (the last step), at that point evaluate the risk, rewards and other options. I think you will likely find the $60 risk worth it.

I don't think the Thai embassy in Mexico has adopted evisa yet so they only deal with applications in person.

If they arrive in Thailand without a visa they will receive a 30 day visa exempt stamp. They can apply one time for a 30 day extension from the immigration in the province they are staying in, giving a total of 60 days.

Seems like you do know a lot about this visa situations so I wanted to ask you a question too. As a US citizen I know that I can enter without visa for 30 days and I can get extension for 30 more days paying 1900 baht. What if I want to stay another 30 days which comes to total 90 days?

@Ricky *******
then get a tourist visa before you go to Thailand and get 60 days + 30 day extension.

Thank you for your answers. I really appreciate it. Can I apply for Thai tourist visa online ( Coz I am currently staying in Turkey) as an American citizen?

@Ricky *******
you'd need to check the website of the Thai embassy there

Can you get this extention at the Chiang Mai office? I only see extentions after 90 days. We just need an additional 30 days after the first 30

@Debbie ****************
I don't know what you're referring to about 90 days but a visa exempt entry is eligible for a one time 30 day extension. It can be applied for at the immigration office where they are staying.

will they need to have proof of a flight out within the 30 days on their arrival or would a flight out on day 42 suffice
Brandon ************
@Debbie ****************
ask their airline. Immigration at Thailand won't ask to see a flight out but their airline might not let them board without proof of a flight out of Thailand within 30 days if they don't have a visa.

thank you. Would they be able to do this in the Phuket airport? And do they need a TM.7 form filled out beforehand

@Debbie ****************
the extension cannot be applied for at the airport. They'll get their 30 day visa exempt stamp when they enter at the airport then have to go to an immigration office to apply for the extension.

Yes, they'd get a 30 day entry stamp at Phuket. The TM7 is available at all Immigration Offices to apply for extensions.
