TLDR : Answer Summary
The effectiveness of using an agent for visa assistance in Thailand is debated among expats. While some believe that agents can simplify the visa process, others caution that agents may primarily serve their own financial interests rather than provide tailored advice. Many suggest that it's better for individuals to research their options to determine what suits their specific circumstances. Some agents may have expertise in limited visa types, potentially leading to a one-size-fits-all approach. Ultimately, successful navigation of the visa landscape may depend more on personal diligence than reliance on agents.

Depends on the agent… some are good and some are not…

If you know what you need and how much you should be paying you would be in a better situation.
How about you post another question explaining what you want to do and people will advise your options

You should be able to figure that out yourself. It is not that hard.

Agents work for money and will try to make the most profit off of you

They only care about your money and how much they will charge you for the service, you can do 90% of the work your self
Frist thing is how old are you if under 50 you can cross some off the list
How much money can you afford to pay for the visa application, so you just need to look into the rules and regulations for your own age and the limits for your cash flow will be very important, because that's what it's all about money 💰
Maybe make a post then of the joys of travelling to your bank and explaining exactly what you need to the new manager who speaks no English, and then standing in line at immigration. Would be great for people to see how fun it really is
rubbish my Bangkok bank has a lot of people that can speak English and understand, as for tilling them want it is that you need it's not a problem as for standing in a line that's no longer a problem with immigration just book a appointment and turn up 10 min before your appointment has been made
rubbish mate. How many expats do you think that applies to lol. Tried a lot of banking in Issan? Regardless - I’m already looking forward to the video of it all. Perception vs reality moments 😂.
Did you actually move 800k here?!?

The "agent's" authority and powers are defined by the contractual arrangement with it. Unlike in Common law jurisdictions, fiduciary obligations may not be directly implied or applicable.
Therefore, unless there is an express contractaul term defining a particular obligation (ie advice of best option) owed by the agent to the principal, s/he does not need to determine the best route.
John Harper ur on to me!! Does the govt offer you a 20 baht discount to advocate standing in line like the average sycophant? One would think you had more than enough of that in England. Maybe a free set of knee pads?
you either can’t do basic finance (you would be an absolute moron to not understand why the agent is a smart route) or simply that rare 🥜 👅 ing sycophant who enjoys standing in line like a good Catholic schoolboy
I haven’t worked a day in a decade. I retired fully at 47 due to a solid grasp of basic finance. And I definitely do mind standing in line with the 21 year old rastafarians and ‘cheap Charlie’ crowd for no apparent reason. And let’s not forget you must do the same at your bank every year. I’m obviously not as bored with my life as you, but maybe that will happen as I age 🤷♂️
The agent annual renewal cost may have risen to 20k this year (not sure) but no higher. And you don’t need to throw your money in the garbage by bringing 800k to Thailand to sit in an account making 0.25%. It’s honestly quite simple. If using the 65k method, great. It makes more sense to go stand in line and save a few baht.

A lot of agents will advise you of the best routes for them and not always the best for you, they get paid regardless.
Best to work out what exactly suits you and get an agent to follow that route.

Wouldn’t rely on it. Best to dive into that topic yourself and make an informed decision amongst the different applicable options.

Maybe? But many agents only really deal in (have the connections for) one or two types of visas so every problem is going to look like a nail for their hammer.
