TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen cannot obtain a six-month multi-entry tourist visa for Thailand at the Consulate in Vietnam unless they have legal residency in Vietnam.

No, not unless you have a legal residency in Vietnam.

Just my opinion but your wants and wishes as to how you want to go and come in Thailand have run into the reality of how Thai Visas for Long stay work. You have been given good suggestions but your idea of a best scenario for your personal wants and desires do not fit

I think it has more to do with Asian-American demographics. They are heavily concentrated on the West coast. There are no direct flights from Thailand to the US, most go through Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Taiwan or China. So it's a question of where people in other East Asian countries want to get to that the airlines have capacity, and that's mostly the West coast.

Just a heads up on Australia. You can get a return flight from Thailand to Aust for under $600 US at most times of the year.

Consulates in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide currently issue them for non Aus citizens.

Here's the requirements.

i’m trying to find a way to stay in Thailand eight months each year, I’ve been getting a one-year retirement visit at the Thailand consulate in Los Angeles

but I have chosen to only return to America once every two years

I am returning in June after my three month stay in Vietnam and can probably get a one year multi entry retirement visa

if they’re still allowing the funds to be in America

I will probably go ahead and get my insurance through Pacific Cross here in Thailand

but at the end of this year of retirement I will be stuck again with not having the Financial requirements which would force me to have to travel back to America to apply for another retirement visa every year which I’m trying to avoid

any suggestions how I can stay in Thailand eight months each year

without having to fly back to America every year

thank you
