Hello everyone,

Has anyone heard about “person who come from Middle East countries” can not get married in Thailand?

Me(from Taiwan) and my Israeli boyfriend are preparing to get married, we have all the documents, and we’ve asked district offices in CM, but they refused us to register marriage because they said my boyfriend is from Middle East.

A lawyer said we can get married in Bangkok, however we have to pay 10,000-15,000 for “tea money”.

Anyone had experience like this before? Thanks in advance🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Taiwanese individual facing marriage registration challenges in Thailand with an Israeli partner seeks advice on whether issues arise due to his Middle Eastern nationality. Responses recommend caution regarding 'tea money' practices, suggest contacting the Israeli embassy, and offer an alternative of marrying in the US with subsequent acknowledgment in Thailand for official purposes.

No need to pay tea money.

Maybe you want to look into this option: You could easily marry in the US without having to travel. You can do it online on zoom and it just takes few days of preparation. Later you can get the marriage acknowledged in Thailand. The marriage certificate will be sent from the US and it will be accepted by all countries that are part of Hague Apostille Convention.

The question is- in which countries do you need the marriage be accepted? If you need it acknowledged by Thailand, it´s doable but takes a few steps to gather all required documents. In Israel it will be accepted immediately without any extra steps.

Be very careful taking advice from a lawyer that mentions "tea money" you might end up with a fake marriage certificate that's worthless.

Talk to the Israeli embassy first.

Issue could be that you are both foreign and/or Israel has complicated marriage laws compared to other countries.
