So I just got my visa back and for whatever reason they marked my sex as female. I leave Nov 12th... what should I do to get this fixed? I'm assuming this mix-up may cause them to deny my entry?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user has discovered that their visa has incorrectly marked their gender as female, and they are concerned about potential entry denial upon arriving in Thailand. Community members suggest various courses of action, including contacting the visa issuer, traveling to submit a correction in person, or considering the Visa Waiver option. Some advise that despite the error, it may not pose a significant problem for entry, while others emphasize the importance of addressing the issue directly with the issuing authorities.

I wouldn’t even worry about it.

was it me, I would take the chance, travel as planned and put on a charming approach if they even notice, but hey, that’s just me, would hate to have to approach consular staff with a mistake that could ruin my trip...

Don't need luck, I didn't say counter, but section, big difference, but without charm and can-do-attitude,you might possibly forget it even you were to hang around wait for a second shift or to hit another section... smile, charm and positive attitude can get you from a lot of NO's to a lot of YES's ! ;) #JustSaying

And the IO just watches you walk away after denying you as you go ask someone else for entry? Good luck with that move.

@Chris *****
just turn around and enter through another immigration section ?
Chris ******
If you try to enter on the visa and they deny it, don't expect to tell the IO you would prefer to then enter on an exemption and be approved. Logic doesn't factor into decisions here.

exactly, or simply do visa waiver runs like 10.000s of others combined with Visa Waiver extensions and flights to surrounding countries, I too would assume the Visa as wasted if rejected, they will have no sentiments to fix it...

Peter I understand your point of view. Entering on visa exempt would be an idea as long as the OP is from a country that qualifies. Getting a visa fixed within Thailand would I think be a problem as embassies and consulates that issue visas are all outside the country. Thai immigration might agree to fix it but I would not bet on it. In reality I think the OP will be fine. If not a 30 exempt entry might be a good option but the OP might also need to go a neighbor country and apply for a new tourist visa if wanting to stay more than 30 days.

I think I get your point, mine is that I would take the chance, and if denied access on grounds of invalid visa, just enter under Visa Waiver and sort it out in Thailand. I would never want to have to get a Thai to fix an error they made that would be on my critical path of something I would want to achieve if I could avoid it... 🙂

Peter just a small point. The folks who issued the visa are part of a different govt agency. Thai immigration is an arm of Thai police.

You still have time.. depending on your flight in the 12th. Go back and fix it ASAP

Where are you now?

The first thing I’d do is going to talk to your visa issuer...

i'm not calling....

NY has always been very efficient with mailing my PP back to me. Beats a trip from upstate. I would priority mail it with a short note and include a prepaid return priority mail envelope. For about $10 including tracking for the round trip it's fast and cheap. I bet you get the visa back with a scratch through the "F" and someones initials. They are not going to replace the visa I would bet.

@Ellie ******
change the last digit on the phone to the next number. They must have more than one phone there.
Ellie *******
Did you try to contact in any other way?

Email, any social media?

What I could think is trying to contact them in any possible way. Email, Twitter, Facebook messenger, call to another number from same office, call to nearby consulate, call to upper consulate/embassy, to try to get to connect to them. Or compare the risk and one day trip..

I’ve dealt with the same office for years and they have never answered the phone, so I’m guessing I’ll have to make the trip to ensure everything is sorted
Ellie *******
Is it possible to call them about the issue?

I’m in upstate NY, so I’d have to travel to the city which is a full day trip...

I'm sure you must be able to find someone, that wouldn't deny your entry.

Sean could you clarify whether the gender mistake is on a visa in your passport or whether it is on the official picture page in your passport?
Edgar ***********
I also have something similar, but was a a mistake on my last name and up being fine.
Scott **********
Sean it is interesting. I checked all of the Thai visas I have gotten and none mentioned gender. It seems different embassies issue slightly different looking visas and I hope this favours immigration not really looking at gender as it is not always there.
Scott **********
@Sean ******
OK I have no personal experience with your issue but if you do not have time to get your visa updated and you are questioned by an IO I would just point to the passport page and say that the embassy or consulate made a mistake on the visa.

On the passport picture page it has me as Male

It's on the visa, not the passport.
