I am managing director of my company and need to cancel my work permit because I am having trouble getting the Social fund to approve my employee and although renewal was rquested well in advance, it is now expired. I have been told that I cannot cancel my work permit. I need a Thai director on my company to do so. Does that make any sense to you ? I have a valid Visa that was given to me out of the country so I am thinking I do not have a problem with overstay till I sort this out. Any thoughts ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a managing director, is seeking advice on canceling his work permit amidst issues with the Social Fund and a recently expired permit. There is some confusion about the necessity of a Thai director for the cancellation and the implications of having a valid visa obtained abroad.
"I have a valid Visa that was given to me out of the country so I am thinking I do not have a problem with overstay till I sort this out"
If you're on overstay, then you're on overstay, regardless of where you get your visa at. You're on overstay when you overstay your stamp on your passport.
I think they mean they BOUGHT a Non-B visa )whether it was a year-multi or a 90 day-single entry doesn't matter) from a thai consulate outside the country.
IF they did that visa and the 90 day entries they get off it isn't affected by anything changing business wise (like canceling the work permit, quitting a job, changing titles etc).
If you are on a VISA that you got from outside the country it gives you 90 days and you can stay without any issues because that visa/entry isn't tied to anything inside the country.
