I have tried to search this within the group and am not finding recent information.

Are dependent visas still offered for Ed visa holders? (I've heard confirmation for Ed Plus which is only offered through a university, correct?)

So if a parent comes to do a year long language course, can they have dependent wife and children (not yet school age) ride on their visa?

I know it was possible 5 years ago but I have heard mixed information on it recently.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Dependent visas are not available for Ed visa holders studying at private language schools. They are only applicable for those studying at international schools, pursuing university degrees, or higher education programs. Therefore, if a parent is enrolled in a year-long language course, their dependent wife and children cannot be included on their visa.

Q. Are dependent visas still offered for Ed visa holders?

-> No. Non-O dependent is not available if the main foreigner is on Non-ED for studying at private schools, such as language schools.

Non-O dependent is applicable on Non-ED (not only Non-ED plus) as well, but only for those studying international schools (children), university for degrees, or higher.

Q. if a parent comes to do a year long language course, can they have dependent wife and children (not yet school age) ride on their visa?

-> No, they can't.

@El***
thank you! And this would also apply if taking a language course through a university, right? Because it’s not for a degree?

you have to talk to the school but as a rule language courses do not qualify for ED visa support for spouse / family.
